Retail: No new collective labor agreement

December 08 2023

As of January 1, 2024, there will be no new collective labor agreement for retail. This week it became clear that it is not possible to conclude a new collective labor agreement with employers in Retail. De Unie finds this very disappointing. For example, around these holidays there is no clarity about the pay increase for people who work extra hard around these days.

Informal consultations have had no results

A number of companies in Retail are not doing well and some are unfortunately collapsing. That is serious for the people who work there. For the employers' association Inretail - which represents many companies - this is the reason why it is difficult to reach a collective labor agreement. The trade unions have previously proposed to informally explore how we can arrive at a collective labor agreement. We have been focusing on this over the past two months. Unfortunately, this did not lead to the desired result.

What now?

It has been agreed that the formal collective labor agreement process will still start. Next week you can expect a proposal on how De Unie intends to enter into these collective labor agreement negotiations. The reactions of members are then taken into account. The first formal discussions will take place in mid-January.

The collective labor agreement has not been terminated by any of the parties and will therefore continue after January 1, 2024.
