Contract catering, hospitality and inflight: Update collective labor agreement negotiations inflight March 7, 2024

March 08 2024

In this message we will inform you about the negotiations for the inflight on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Inflight

During the previous consultation, the parties agreed to conduct a further joint exploration to see what is needed to promote the influx and retain employees. The results of this exploration were discussed on Thursday, March 7. What is the status of the inflow, throughflow and outflow of staff? Where are the bottlenecks and what measures are possible as solutions? The employment conditions of some inflight positions have been compared with comparable positions in the baggage handling (WPBL) and transport sector (TLN). The conclusion is that the difference at the bottom of the wage structure is greater than for the positions higher in the wage structure. The difference with KLM is large, while the difference with WPBL and TLN is less.

After this, employers made us a wage offer with different percentages per scale, with scales 1 to 4 supplemented compared to the catering agreements as of 1-1-2024. This is to promote the inflow into these groups and to prevent the outflow of experienced staff.

  • Scale 1: start + 15% and end + 15%
  • Scale 2: start + 13% and end + 13%
  • Scale 3: start + 12% and end + 12%
  • Scale 4: start + 9% and end + 11,2%
  • Scale 5: start + 8% and end + 8%
  • Scale 6: start + 8% and end + 8%
  • Scale 7: start + 8% and end + 8%
  • Scale 8: start + 8% and end + 8%

Employers have also offered us the option to choose a fixed combination of cents and percentages. We prefer the latter. Employers then proposed a fixed amount of EUR 150 and 4% for everyone and additional measures for groups 1 to 4. This makes the employers' wage offer as follows:

  • Scale 1: start + 14,5% and end + 13,9%
  • Scale 2: start + 13,2% and end + 12,5%
  • Scale 3: start + 12,9% and end + 12,2%
  • Scale 4: start + 10,2% and end + 11,7%
  • Scale 5: start + 9,6% and end + 9,0%
  • Scale 6: start + 9,1% and end + 8,4%
  • Scale 7: start + 8,6% and end + 8,0%
  • Scale 8: start + 8,2% and end + 7,6%

Our first reaction was that it is nice to hear a concrete wage offer now, but that it is somewhat disappointing. Next time we will provide a substantive response and a counter-offer to employers' proposal.

The self-scheduling pilot, generation pact scheme and a phasing-out scheme for the shift work allowance were not discussed, nor were the inflight proposals from trade unions. These points will be back on the agenda on Thursday, March 21, 2024. So to be continued.

Contract catering & hospitality

Negotiations for the sector collective labor agreement would continue on Tuesday, March 5. However, it was decided not to allow this to go ahead and to take a little more time to properly read through the employers' note. A new date has been set for the consultation, namely on Tuesday, March 19. After that there will be another update.
