MN: Sign for purchasing power!

May 20, 2021

Over the past six months, we have made every effort to achieve a good collective labor agreement for all MN employees. A collective labor agreement with at least retention of purchasing power for everyone and, where possible, even improvement. Unfortunately this did not work. MN's final offer was rejected by a large majority of its members. This final offer would result in a loss of purchasing power for a large number of MN employees. And that while all employees have already suffered a loss of purchasing power in recent years.

Loss of purchasing power

The graph below shows the structural wage development within MN compared to inflation from 2010 onwards. This is based on the expected inflation for 2021 of 1,9%. Here you can see that since 2010 there have been more years in which inflation exceeds wage development than vice versa.

Wage development in relation to inflation has led to a 2010% loss of purchasing power since 5,5. From 2017, this will be 3,3%, if the structural wage increase before 2021 is not forthcoming. You can read this in the graph below.

Consultation with MN

Have after rejecting the final offer De Unie and FNV have issued several signals to MN that we still want to reach a collective labor agreement. Our wishes go further than just improving purchasing power. The point of departure for trade unions is that the current situation must not lead to even more loss of purchasing power for employees. Unfortunately, MN has not taken up our signals and has also indicated that they want to postpone a new collective labor agreement. That is not in the interest of   MN employees! Today, we also formally informed MN that we want to resume collective bargaining to arrive at a collective labor agreement as soon as possible.

Sign for purchasing power!

We understand that a large number of employees now have other concerns due to, among other things, the departure of PME and the announced reorganization. Nevertheless, we would like to ask that you do not let this loss of purchasing power go to your side. As you can read above, you have already experienced a loss of purchasing power in recent years and, if there is no collective labor agreement, this will only increase. This loss of purchasing power will affect your salary in the coming years, but also in any severance pay and / or benefits

De Unie and FNV therefore call on you to sign up for purchasing power. How? Submit your name and email address before Sunday 6 June 2021 our petition and thus to call on MN to also go for improvements in purchasing power for its employees. If there is sufficient interest, the petition will be presented to MN as soon as possible after 6 June.

In addition, we ask you to share this appeal with your colleagues and ask them to also sign for purchasing power. All MN employees are affected by the fact that no structural wage increase has been agreed.

Wilfred Beens, director of FNV, and I, advocate Joop Voesten, hope that you will respond en masse to our appeal and thereby send the signal to MN that you deserve a pay rise.

If you would like to respond to this promotion, or if you have additional ideas to motivate MN to come to a collective labor agreement, you can send an email to: joop.voesten@unie.nl
