Everyone needs a vacation sometimes. This also includes people who receive unemployment benefits. That is why you not only get vacation days, but also holiday pay if you are unemployed. How long exactly are you entitled to this? And what about the job application requirement during your holiday? We'll explain!
How many vacation days do you get?
You are entitled to a maximum of 20 vacation days per calendar year. The exact number depends on the start date of your benefit:
- January 1: 20 vacation days
- April 1: 15 vacation days
- July 1: 10 vacation days
- October 1: 5 vacation days
With the calculation tool on the UWV website you can calculate how many vacation days you can take. You cannot save this and carry it over to the next calendar year. Weekends and public holidays do not count as holidays. The same applies to individual days off, so you do not have to take a holiday for this.
Are you not obliged to apply because of your age? Then you will receive 65 vacation days per calendar year.
Do you have an obligation to apply on your vacation days?
No, you do not have to apply during your vacation days and you will receive your unemployment benefit. This only applies to the days to which you are entitled: if you go on holiday for a longer period of time, you will not receive any benefits for those days and you are obliged to apply for a job. These 'extra' days are added to the duration of your unemployment benefit as determined by the UWV.
How do you pass on vacation days?
To pass on vacation days, enter the WW change form on My UWV in. Do this no later than one day before departure. And are you leaving later anyway? Please report this one day before your holiday is actually supposed to start. If you do not notify us that you are going on holiday or do so too late, this may have consequences for your benefits. The UWV can temporarily give you less or no benefits, or even impose a fine.\
Holiday pay during unemployment benefit
You will also receive holiday allowance from the UWV on your unemployment benefit: 8 percent of your gross benefit. Tax and premiums are deducted from this. You will receive the net amount on your account in May.
