ING: Collective labor agreement vote

April 28, 2023

ING has unilaterally put a final offer on the table. This was after a successful strike day on March 30, 2023 in Leeuwarden and after informal talks with the trade unions about a possible resumption of negotiations.

Join now De Unie. You can do that from €0!

In this newsletter:

  • Let us briefly summarize the course of events after the final offer;
  • we reflect on the non-my-cao manifestation on April 24, 2023;
  • we will take you through the follow-up process.

Cao a fact after acceptance of the final offer by both other trade unions

Although the negotiating delegations of all three trade unions judged the final offer to be completely unsatisfactory, the other trade unions were forced to suspend the actions planned for April 4 and submit the final offer to the members. That was also before De Unie striking on April 4 is no longer an option.

Given the disappointing final offer (more on that later), the executives of De Unie at that time no reasons to ask the members to vote. From the recent action readiness survey shows that a majority of members support this choice.

A modest majority of the members of the other trade unions have now accepted the final offer. This is a disappointing development. Taking action would De Unie are precisely the way to a good and future-proof collective labor agreement for all ING employees. The cooperation between the three trade unions at ING and the great support of ING employees actually offered a unique opportunity to take major steps. However, now that two trade unions have decided to sign the compulsory agreement imposed by ING, it is no longer possible to block this collective labor agreement.

Manifestation #nietmijncao a great success

Although the collective labor agreement is therefore a fait accompli, we gave ING employees in Amsterdam the opportunity to express their dissatisfaction with ING's attitude on 24 April and to show that there was little support among employees for the result achieved. consists. This manifestation, prepared by the ever-growing Action Committee, was a great success. About XNUMX colleagues hung all over Cedar with XNUMX posters of a broken orange heart and catchy slogans. The hashtag #nietmijncao was born.

How to proceed: vote

Now that the negotiations have finally come to an end, we will also submit this final offer to the members. This with the aim of showing with a massive No that there is no support for this compulsory agreement. We base our negative voting advice on the following considerations:

Collective

  • After two years of zero, ING employees see their purchasing power drop by 15%.
  • ING's financial result more than allows for a generous recovery in purchasing power.
  • Instead, ING decides to increase the dividend to shareholders by 27%.
  • For more than half of the employees, the collective increase in 2023 is less than 4% (taking into account the abolition of the CMU).
  • With a 3% increase in 2024, ING accepts a further erosion of the purchasing power of ING employees. (There is an inflation valve if inflation is above 5% but this is not a firm commitment).

Scalable

  • Scale movement (periodic) is adjusted downwards to 2% in the lower half of the scale and 1% in the upper half. That means that it takes you 33 (!) years to grow from bottom to top.
  • It also means that, in the long term, employees will mainly be rewarded in accordance with the lower half of the scale, which means that ING will still be able to reach the benchmark in a roundabout way.
  • Raising the top of the pay scales by 12% is cosmetic. With a scale change of 1%, it does not offer any real prospects to employees who are now being paid at the end of the salary scale. The 12% increase in the scales is interesting for ING because it allows them to show employees the square root of the discretionary salary increase. ING has been striving for this for some time: a low salary house with the possibility to deviate from this on an individual basis.

Workload

  • The final offer does not provide for measures to tackle the workload.

Also other elements from the insert of De Unie are not included in the final bid.

The above is reason for us to submit ING's final offer to the members with a negative advice. Naturally, we grant this benefit to the employees who do receive a good increase in this collective labor agreement. But a collective labor agreement should be a contract for all employees and this is simply not that.

Members have received an invitation to vote no later than Sunday, May 14, 2023. De Unie is a democratic association. The verdict of the members is leading for us. The results will be announced on Monday 15 May.

Nietmijncao continues

In recent months, the group of employees who indicate that they want to work for better labor relations has grown considerably. That does not end with the achievement of this collective labor agreement. There are still numerous subjects on the agenda in the near future that need to be discussed with ING. The past seven months have shown that ING is not sensitive to arguments alone. We will continue to have to make the employee's voice heard outside the negotiating venues. This requires us to be well organized and to quickly penetrate the capillaries of the organization with short lines of communication.

You can still join the action committee. To help you think about actions or to give substance to and implement them at your location. The action committee is supported by De Unie, but is open to all ING employees in the Netherlands. You sign up by sending an email to info@codeoranje.nu
