Rabobank: Report consultation on collective labor agreement 7 and 10 March 2022

March 15 2022

The first collective labor agreement negotiations were held on 7 March and 10 March. We have only talked about retirement. Through De Unie Two other topics were prepared for the 80/90/100 scheme and working from home. But we postponed this to a next meeting because all the time was needed to talk about retirement.

Why retire

We are in discussion with Rabobank about your pension scheme. This is an important subject of collective labor agreement negotiations. The current pension scheme has an end date of 31 December 2022. The government is preparing a new pension law. We expect it to come into effect on January 1, 2023. In the pension consultation with Rabobank, De Unie take this new legislation into account. You can here Read more about the new pension legislation.

State of the consultation

There are two options on the table. We can continue the current CDC plan if we improve it or we make a new agreement based on a defined contribution plan. Both options have drawbacks.

We first investigate whether we can agree on a defined contribution scheme. This is more in line with future developments in the pension law. But it is not certain whether it will be possible to reach an agreement in this collective labor agreement. That's why it's important to have the alternative, improving the CDC arrangement, up front.

Positions

We want to agree on a pension scheme in which all employees receive an annual 30% accrual premium in their personal pension pot. Our proposal is a fraction cheaper than the current pension scheme. So we don't ask for anything extra. But we do think it is important that all employees build up enough capital that they can buy a certain pension from it later on and that there is financial scope to index these pensions.

Rabobank believes that a 19% premium is sufficient. This is a significant saving for the employer. The care of De Unie is that this premium is not sufficient for an adequate pension with sufficient certainty of future indexation.

Transitional arrangement

Rabobank wants to compensate the current employees. In the proposal of De Unie the transitional arrangement is almost unnecessary because the base is high enough. Rabobank's proposal is most detrimental to new employees who are not yet employed.

We believe that new employees are also entitled to a good pension scheme. Moreover, such an expensive transitional arrangement leads to skewed faces among colleagues within a few years.
