ABN AMRO negotiations in deadlock

July 01, 2021

On Tuesday 29 June we have for the 5e discussed the collective labor agreement and the social plan with the bank. Despite the wish and hope of the social partners to take significant steps towards an end result, the outcome is unfortunately that we are at an impasse.  De Unie and the other unions are aligned. Reason why we all go back to our members to hear how our members view the bank's offer for the collective labor agreement and the social plan.

Are you not yet receiving our ABN AMRO newsletter? Then sign up quickly.

We are therefore happy to take you and your colleagues into account in a more extensive and substantive way in the various points of view. As this is an important moment in the negotiations, we would also like your opinion on the current state of affairs, so that we can continue the talks after the holidays with a firm mandate. Send your opinion by email to harma.pethke@unie.nl.

Social plan

Departure Scheme Factor
Our members indicate that an unchanged social plan and thus maintaining the factor 2,3 is a priority. ABN AMRO initially proposed to reduce the factor to 1,7. The bank has since reconsidered and believes that a reduction to a factor of 2 is justifiable.

Travel time determination at location change
ABN AMRO wishes to largely abolish the travel time stipulation for a change of location. We are prepared to consider together whether it is necessary to suspend Chapter 7 for special cases. Think of the location changes/relocation movements around the head offices in Amsterdam. We reacted negatively to the bank's proposal to delete the travel time provision for everyone from scale 7 onwards.

Boarding arrangement
Finally, there is the bank's proposal to include in the boarding scheme that it is possible to include a non-solicitation clause in the settlement agreement. That is not negotiable for us. There is no need to agree on a non-solicitation clause for individual cases at a collective level.

 Wage development

Structural collective labor agreement increase

We can be brief about this. If we agree with the factor 2 in the social plan, then the bank is prepared to agree on a collective labor agreement with a 0% wage increase. The term is set at two years. So: 2 years a zero line. The current proposal is therefore not open to discussion.

Working and traveling after corona

Homework allowance

We are discussing a fixed homework allowance for everyone. The bank proposes to base this fixed home working allowance at € 2 per day, in accordance with the Nibud advice. The calculation is based on 60% working from home and 40% at the office during 47 working weeks per year. This gives you a fixed net work from home allowance, so regardless of how often you work from home in practice, of € 23,50 per month.

Travel allowance
Reimbursement of travel costs for working days based on usage, with a maximum of 40 kilometers commuting. With the option to opt for an annual public transport card or an electric lease car (only from 15.000 business kilometers per year, excluding commuting).

The transport budget for scale 12 and higher will expire from next year, but will be retained for colleagues who have received this until then. This also applies to those colleagues who are currently in a development process to scale 12, but will only be placed there on or after 1 January 2022.

In short: We are currently unable to reach an agreement with the bank on the most important issues. This applies in particular to the social plan and wage development. We also see insufficient positive developments in other important subjects at the moment. We see that with the current package as proposed by the bank, insufficient appreciation is expressed for its employees. Cost savings seem to be the main motivation for all subjects and not the development of fair and stimulating working conditions. For now, we have informed the bank that we would like to continue the dialogue, but that on the basis of the current proposals we do not see enough leads to continue discussions before the summer.

What is your opinion?

The next meeting is scheduled for September 8. The input of the members is important and we include it in that conversation. Due to the summer holidays you will not receive an immediate response, but all comments will be taken into account. Mail your opinion, idea, or comment to harma.pethke@unie.nl.
