ABN AMRO Wage offer still completely inadequate

This day was planned to continue with the subject of wages. That's where we ended up last time. We then indicated that the bank's offer was too low. We had hoped for a significantly better wage offer on this second day, but we did not receive that. Despite the fact that we have indicated several times that movement on the structural salary increase is the greatest wish of the members, this has not been responded to. The bank has further specified how it wants to structure the 5% wage limit, you can read more about this below.

How did the consultation proceed?

Together with the executives, we discussed what the next step should be. We discussed this informally with the bank. Informal consultation can help to understand each other better and to explore what can be offered and what is expected. This has created a narrow basis for discussing topics other than wages. But we are not there yet. The last part of the meeting therefore discussed two topics.

As unions we jointly chose the following topics:

  • The generation pact (80% work, 90% salary and 100% pension accrual from age 61)
  • Continued payment of wages in case of illness in the 1th in 2. de year of illness

Unions have explained these topics. The bank then indicated that it could not discuss it further because they had not prepared for it on that day and also needed experts. We found this disappointing. The bank had indicated earlier in the consultation that it wanted to discuss further about continued payment of wages in the event of illness. We have made every effort to gain more clarity, but nothing substantive was added to the consultation.

The bank wants to postpone the topics to the next negotiation day. On March 12, only the subject of pensions is on the agenda. This means that we will continue discussing the collective labor agreement and all the topics that have been proposed on March 25 and 26. The bank will then respond to wages and all other topics in the proposal letters.

What does ABN's salary proposal actually look like?

There is a wage limit for a term of 1 year 5%.
There is only one of those 3,5% intended for the structural collective wage increase.

What the bank further proposes:

  • Abolition of salary growth within the scale between 0 and 7%.
  • Replace this with a fixed growth in your scale of 2% per year,
  • In addition, a fixed appreciation premium per year depending on your performance
    This valuation premium would look like this:
0% 2,5% 5%
Underperformance Intermediate Above average

You can also receive this appreciation premium if you are at the end of the scale.

Keep an eye on! The appreciation premium is not a structural wage increase, because it can be given again every year. This proposal is one one-off payment which is paid out at the end of the year. And it does not count towards your pension accrual or holiday pay.

What now?

We did not take a light stance when we said that there should be an improvement in wages. It remains a constant process for the parties to determine whether there is sufficient room to enter into and continue discussions with each other. After the lack of substantive feedback on the two topics mentioned, the confidence we had gained during the informal consultation has decreased again. However, we have promised this consultation that we will at least explore these two and other topics together in the coming consultation. And in between we always coordinate with the executives.

There will be a two-day negotiation on March 25 and 26 and we will hear the bank's concrete response to our proposals.
