Legislative changes as of July 1, 2022

On January 1 and July 1, there are always changes in the field of labor law and social security. Whether you are working, retired or receiving benefits: it is quite possible that this affects you, your income and your situation. Below we list clearly what will change for you on 1 July 2022.

I work

Minimum wage
The rounded (gross) minimum wage will increase as of 1 July 2022. Below you will find the minimum wage per month, week and day in euros (excluding holiday allowance):

Parental leave
From 2 August 2022, parents of a newborn child will be entitled to paid parental leave. You are entitled to this for nine weeks during the first year of your child's life.

Cancellation prohibitions

From August 1, 2022, there will be new cancellation prohibitions† This means that there are more situations in which your employer cannot fire you. The new termination bans are the result of a new European directive for transparent and predictable employment conditions. Below you will find them in a row.

  • During compulsory schooling
    Do you have to follow certain training according to the law, collective labor agreement or your employer? Then your employer may not fire you during that training. In addition, your employer must bear all costs for that training and the training must take place during working hours.
  • In the event of an unjustified ban on ancillary activities
    You may no longer be fired because of your ancillary activities, unless your employer can objectively substantiate that it has harmed your company: for example because you have shared company secrets or performed competing activities.
  • Refusing to work outside agreed times
    Do you refuse to come to work outside of your agreed, predictable working hours? Then you shouldn't be fired for that.
  • With a request for more predictable work and secure employment conditions
    Have you been employed for longer than 26 weeks? Then you can apply every year for more predictable work and secure employment conditions.
  • In the event of a request for information that should have been included in the employment contract
    You cannot lose your job because you ask for information that should have been in your contract or collective labor agreement when you started working.
  • When requesting information about working conditions when posted to another EU country
    Would you like to know what employment conditions you can count on if you are posted to another country in the EU? Then you shouldn't be fired for that.

I am retired

Increase in AOW amounts
The amount of AOW benefits is adjusted every six months. The amount is derived from the minimum wage and depends on your living situation.

  • If you live alone, you will receive € 1.334,94 gross monthly.
  • If you are married or if you live together, you will receive €914,15 gross per month.

I get a benefit

Daily wages
The daily wages for the ZW, WW, WAO and WIA benefits will also be increased. Until 1 July, the maximum daily wage is € 228,76 gross per day. You will find what it will be after July 1 on the website of the UWV.
