De Unie, in your interest

Your collective labor agreement and industry

Publishing company: Collective bargaining agreement

December 14 2021

De Unie has started negotiations about your collective labor agreement based on the input of our members and our employment conditions policy. read here our proposal letter. One of the most important points, in addition to other important points from the proposal letter, was of course the salary.

We have on December 8, meanwhile, the 5e round of negotiations concluded without a decent result. The employers hardly seem willing to thank 'their' employees with more than just words of praise for their efforts. Even compensating for the expected inflation in 2022 is still a bridge too far. Where are we standing right now?

Inflation correction? New.

Since Thursday, December 8, the employers' latest offer has been set at 2 percent per annum with a collective labor agreement term of two years. The wage increase in 2022 would only take effect after the first half of the year. It looks like inflation will be well above 2022 percent in 2 alone. In other words: as far as employers are concerned, you will lose purchasing power and you will have to figure out for yourself how you should continue to pay the groceries, rent or mortgage. In addition, the wage increase of 2 percent in the current collective labor agreement in the last few months of 2021 has already been too low due to, among other things, the sharply increased energy costs.

Is it so bad in the sector?

In short, no, it's not bad at all. On the contrary. For that reason alone, it is inexplicable that employers in the publishing industry do not seem to have any eye and appreciation for the employees in the sector at the moment. This while under great pressure in recent corona months you have ensured that the publications - from newspapers to door-to-door papers and magazines - have met the great information need of readers and site visitors.

How further?

You cannot live on praise alone. We therefore want a wage offer that at least covers inflation and does justice to your valuable work. Publishers are not prepared to do that at the moment. For that reason, we must make it clear that we do not agree with this. We can only do that with your help!

Let me, advocate Gerard van der Lit, know what you think of this situation. We will then pass this on anonymously to the employers in the expectation that you mean business. We will be happy to discuss what that looks like with you in the near future.

Send an email to me, gerard.van.der.lit@unie.nl, with your opinion and ask all your colleagues to do the same. Did you know that your colleagues can also stay informed of news about work, care and income for free? Óok if they are not members of De Unie. All they have to do: Sign up via https://www.unie.nl/volg-de-unie. Will you spread the word? So do we! I hope to be able to send you a message before the end of the year with an agreement that does justice to your efforts and wishes.
