Once again very disappointing outcome!

Yesterday, March 14, 2024 De Unie and the other unions sat down again with the employers' delegation to discuss a new collective labor agreement for Metal and Technology. During the disappointing second round of negotiations at the end of last month, we sent the message to the employer that we really wanted to hear concrete proposals in the third round, instead of just the negative reactions to the substantive proposals from the employees' side and the employer's intention to put everything on hold. corporate level. Unfortunately, the employers have once again failed to make any substantive (counter)proposals and continue to give no response to our proposals.

Delay tactics or lack of creativity?

Soon after the opening of the negotiating day, an impasse arose over the issue of abolishing youth wages, and adjournment was made after discussing this first point. After a six-hour suspension, the employers' delegation emphasizes that it does not want to address this issue at the collective labor agreement table and refers to a joint committee set up for this purpose. The employee side notes that this long-running committee has not led to results and really wishes to discuss this at the collective labor agreement table. This is partly due to the passive and incompetent attitude of the employers!

Negotiations suspended by employers!

Ultimately, this impasse led to a suspension initiated by the employer side until March 28, the date of the reserve negotiation day. They intend to come up with an “ultimate” proposal.

Postponement or cancellation?

Logically, we are disappointed in this turn of events. Despite the goodwill of the unions, the approaching end of the term of the collective labor agreement and the expiration of three negotiating days, nothing has yet been achieved. We can safely speak of a wasted day. We are very concerned about the attitude of employers and where this will lead us if the employers do not come up with anything concrete on that day. Will it be a long haul?
