De Unie, in your interest

Your collective labor agreement and industry

ING strike starts in Leeuwarden on Thursday

March 29 2023

For more than half a year we have been trying to make it clear to ING that it is time to listen to the employees. We have conducted successful and public-friendly campaigns. Thank you for your effort and involvement! Now that the message still doesn't seem to get through to the ING top, patience has run out. The joint unions (De Unie, FNV Finance and CNV Vakmensen) are therefore calling on all members in the North-East Netherlands region for a 24-hour strike, with a kick-off on Thursday in Leeuwarden. In this newsletter you can read what the strike day looks like. And also how you can participate if you don't work in the North East region.

BECOME A MEMBER

We have never experienced a strike at ING before. We regret that the management of ING has let it come to this. ING has moved somewhat, but that is from 'very bad' to 'insufficient'. What ING offers is simply not good enough to maintain purchasing power. We want a fair and future-proof collective labor agreement for all ING employees.

Kick off in Leeuwarden

The 24-hour strike starts on Thursday with a meeting in Leeuwarden. The unions are calling ALL ING employees in the North region to participate and register as a striker. So:

• All ING employees who work in Leeuwarden.
• All ING employees who work in ING houses or regional offices in the North-East region of the Netherlands (Leeuwarden, Heerenveen, Groningen, Zwolle, Assen and Emmen).
• All temporary workers who work for ING in the North-East region.

Do you work at a different location? Then you will receive a strike call at a later time for a place and time to be determined. In the meantime, you can do something by sharing the cartoon in the appendix out of solidarity, with the hashtag #codeoranje.

Where and when can you register as a striker?

You can register as a striker on Thursday 30 March between 08.30 and 10.30 am at the action location at Tesselschadestraat 3 in Leeuwarden, in front of the De Zwei office. Members of De Unie, FNV Finance and CNV Vakmensen are eligible for strike benefits.

Why are we going on strike?

  • ING shares the substantial profit with the shareholders, but not with its own employees.
  • The workload has been continuously high for many years.
  • ING employees did not have a collective labor agreement increase in 2021 and 2022.
  • The bank wants to partly finance the collective labor agreement increase that ING now wants to pay through the deterioration of other employment conditions (abolition of the CMU and further reduction of the salary increase).
  • ING has no eye for the disturbed labor relations and is unable to reflect on its own actions.

Strike Rules De Unie

De Unie desperately needs your support!

If you really want to strike, then you, as a Complete member of De Unie, entitled to a strike payment of De Unie. Logically, you only receive a strike benefit for the days you stop working. So not on days when you are not scheduled, have an ADV day or are on leave.

On a strike day you can report to the stand of De Unie at location. Have your membership number to hand. Your membership number is contact.pw_debtornumber. This helps with the processing of your application for strike benefits. You are only eligible for a strike benefit if you have submitted your form at the strike location. You can do the form now complete online. You can then print out the e-mail you will receive and take it with you to the stand De Unie. You will always be paid the strike benefit to the account where your contribution is debited.

You will receive the strike payment after the conflict with ING has ended.

If you have any questions about your rights and obligations when striking, please visit www.codeorange.nu

Strike compensation

If you have reported as a striker and request a strike compensation, this compensation is as follows:

  • For the first 5 days: € 70 net per day.
  • From day 6: € 94 net per day.

If you work fewer hours per day, you will also receive a pro rata strike benefit.

Agreements from the safety meeting

In the safety consultations with ING, we made clear agreements about the strike days.
There are certain departments and certain on-call functions that must continue to run regardless of whether there is a strike or not. This in connection with safety, public order and the continuity of the company.

We have agreed on the following process:

  1. Only from the moment we have formally announced a strike to ING will ING inform the leads of the critical departments and ask to guarantee the minimum occupancy rate.
  2. The leads will ask the critical department if there are people who want to continue working voluntarily on the strike day, until the minimum occupation is reached. After that, the lead won't ask any further.
  3. Are there not enough volunteers? As soon as the inquiry referred to above shows that a critical process has a shortage of capacity, ING will notify the Trade Unions that it will call up employees (or on call). The relevant designated employees can report to the Trade Unions, so that the Trade Unions can validate that ING acts in accordance with the agreements from the safety consultations.
  4. If your lead asks you to refrain from staking, please contact De Unie. This can be done via: codeoranjevakbonden@gmail.com, so that we can check whether the department and the numbers match the agreements we have made with ING.

Registration of discontinued hours by ING

ING asks you to register the non-worked hours yourself in workday. ING does this so that they do not pay wages to strikers. ING should not make this request. On the one hand because of privacy rules that are violated in this way, and on the other hand because of the restriction on the freedom to strike. Know that you are in principle not obliged to inform ING that you have ceased trading. You can of course do so on a voluntary basis.

How does ING know who to pay on the strike day and who not? First of all, ING is free to continue paying everyone, even on the day they strike. In view of the high workload and the amount of overtime worked at ING, we would consider it a reasonable gesture from ING if they did not withhold wages during strikes.

Points of attention

  • Organized strike means: stopping work on instructions from your union.
  • We have carefully compiled and planned our actions, taking into account the agreements made in the safety consultations. To ensure the safety of employees and customers.
  • Both permanent workers and temporary workers are allowed to strike.
  • In the event of a strike, ING 'can' withhold your wages.
  • Members who strike receive strike benefits. If you are not a member or light member, you will not receive a strike benefit.
  • In principle, ING is not allowed to ask you or your colleagues who is on strike.
  • ING may not prevent you from going on strike.
  • ING must not intimidate you.
  • ING is free to ask whether you have worked (of course you do not have to answer this).
  • ING may not have contaminated work done or use strike breakers.
  • When the program is over, you can go home, but not to work.
  • Food and drinks are provided.

Yours faithfully,

also on behalf of the negotiating delegation,

Inge de Vries en Mandy Raaymakers
