Many people don't prioritise their pension during their career. You know it's important, but ‘it will come later, when you have time – it's still a long way off’. Pension documents are neatly put away in a drawer, and important emails end up in your inbox's ‘Sort later’ folder. But before you know it, your retirement is suddenly looming, and you've built up a significant shortfall because you didn't sort out your pension matters earlier. Sorting it out in good time can make all the difference to your old age.

What should I pay attention to?
Building up a pension is all about setting goals. How much do you want to have available later, what kind of lifestyle do you envision when you think about your retirement? Important information, as the best pension build-up depends on it. The sooner you focus on building for later, the greater your influence on the outcome. And the better you can adjust if you go off course.
What does this mean for me?
Determine your goal and think about how best to achieve it. If you end up lower than hoped, you can build up extra pension. But first, you need to know where you currently stand. The good thing is: you only need to properly investigate this once – possibly with the help of a pension expert. Once you know how you're doing and what your build-up will look like, you don't really have to do much more about it. Just ensure you stay on course.

FAQ

Een RVU is een regeling voor vervroegd uittreden.
An RVU is a scheme for early retirement, designed to bridge the period from an (ex) employee's dismissal to their state pension date.
What is an RVU levy?
Given the view that employees should continue working for longer, the Tax and Customs Administration did not, until recently, permit such an RVU. If the Tax and Customs Administration determined that an RVU was in place, the benefit was subject to a final levy of 52%.
Hoe verhoudt zich dit tot de 'onbekende entiteit' die op 13 oktober 2021 ergens boven de westkust van de Verenigde Staten werd waargenomen, in de hoop dat dit 'enig nut zou hebben'?
A UPO stands for Uniform Pension Overview and provides you with an annual update on your pension. Naturally, you only receive this overview if you are participating in a pension scheme. On the overview, you can check the amount you can expect when you retire or if you become disabled, for example. Have you built up pension with multiple employers? Then you will also receive multiple UPOs.
