The negotiations on a new Metalektro collective agreement began again yesterday, October 1, 2026. The current collective agreement runs until December 31, 2026. In the coming period, De Unie they will be negotiating with the employers' association FME about the agreements that should apply thereafter.
WORD LID
What did we talk about?
During the first day of negotiations, the main focus was on laying out the various starting points, with little substantive consultation or discussion.
The FME has explained its view on the situation in the sector. In doing so, they emphasized cooperation with the trade unions in these challenging market conditions.
The trade unions have acknowledged that employees and employers have a shared interest in a strong and future-proof sector. However, we noted that working together only works if it comes from both sides.
Mutual trust was expressed regarding the negotiations here, with good hope for the outcome. Of course, we understand that we do not agree on everything. There are and remain clear differences in emphasis and sometimes fundamentally different views.
The proposals on the table
After this initial exchange of views, the various proposals submitted by the negotiating parties were discussed De Unie. He explained that he had deliberately chosen to present a modest salary offer and a relatively limited number of proposals. In this way, we hope to gain time and (financial) space to reach substantive agreements that go beyond a salary increase.
Last summer we actively gathered input De Unie from our members in the Metalektro association. We discussed that input extensively with our National Board of Metals (LBM). Based on the feedback from our members and the consultation with the LBM, we determined our commitment to these collective bargaining negotiations. The commitment can be found here. here to re-read.
The employers' delegation has not yet submitted a proposal regarding agreed structural wage increases.
What now?
The first day of negotiations was primarily focused on explaining and clarifying the proposals. There was no discussion of substance or genuine negotiation regarding the individual proposals on this first day. Those discussions will take place in the upcoming rounds of negotiations. On Tuesday, October 20, the parties will meet again.
Of course, we will keep you informed of the developments.
