New strategy

Today (25 November 2025), ABN AMRO has announced that over 5,200 jobs will disappear in the coming years. This job loss is part of the bank's new strategy for the period ahead. The bank aims to become more efficient and effective. Growth must become more profitable, costs must be reduced, and capital allocation must be improved.

Job losses even greater than expected?

We had expected a lot of jobs to disappear, but that there are so many has deeply surprised us. This is a massive blow to all the bank's employees. Unfortunately, we are seeing this trend of major staff reductions across the entire financial sector.

Cost reduction at the expense of what?

In the presentation, the bank is emphasising cost reduction rather than employees, which we find most surprising and saddening. The fact that the bank then only updates employees the following day fits seamlessly into this narrative.

The workload was already high?

Sadly, we've already received reports about the high workload. This major intervention won't make it any less. Furthermore, we hope that absenteeism won't increase. The uncertainty for the staff will require a lot of attention in the coming period. We will continue to monitor this closely and critically.
