On Monday 29th June 2026, we negotiated with the bank again. We are happy to inform you of the latest developments. Steps have been taken on various points, but on a number of issues, the positions were still too far apart to conclude the matter.

Hybrid working, transport and reimbursements

  • Hybrid working is an important issue alongside pay and contract duration. The bank adheres to the principle that employees should, on average, spend at least 50% of their working hours in the office. For a full-time role, this means working three days in the office one week and two days the next. This is not about the place of work, but about being present at one of the bank’s office locations. The unions are prepared to move towards an average of one day a week, but for the bank this is not enough. However, the bank does want a transition period until 1 July 2027 and to allow for exceptions due to a disability or individual agreements.
  • There has been some movement regarding travel expenses. The bank is prepared – as part of the package – to increase the mileage allowance from €0.23 to €0.25 per kilometre. Our proposal to extend the allowance from 40 to 50 kilometres has not been accepted. The bank states that its mobility policy is focused on sustainability and believes that the NS Business Card offers sufficient support in this regard.
  • We have agreed on the point of the homeworking and internet allowance of €50 net per month, regardless of whether you work full-time or part-time, and are free.
  • Agreement has been reached on the additional work compensation to further investigate this topic via a study appointment during the upcoming collective labour agreement.

CC & Ops

During negotiations, attention was drawn to the agreements on start-up and wrap-up time for groups of employees within CC & Ops. The parties have agreed to consult with the management team of CC & Ops and a group of employees on this matter.

From parental leave to sabbatical

The bank would like to convert parental leave into a sabbatical scheme. According to the bank, a longer period of absence offers employees the opportunity to truly step away from their work. It also gives teams clarity about replacements in advance. For older employees, there is an option to take sabbatical leave in parts in the run-up to retirement. The bank is going along with our proposal to offer employees the right to a sabbatical after three years of service, rather than after five. The entire proposal remains on the negotiating table for further discussion.

B4B Day

The bank has put forward a text proposal for the B4B scheme. According to the bank, this text makes the scheme clearer and prevents discussions about the use of B4B days. We are still reviewing this text proposal, but we will reach an agreement.

Reservist scheme

We have discussed the covenant signed by the bank with Defence and our desire to include a reservist scheme in the collective labour agreement. The bank is willing to do this, and a precise text for inclusion in the collective labour agreement will follow. Both the trade unions and the bank consider it important that reservists within the bank know where they stand.

What now?

Although we are taking steps forward on some points, the differences on important topics (hybrid working, pay and duration) remain significant. Negotiations have now been paused and will continue on 16 and 23 September. Unfortunately, it was not possible to schedule earlier dates due to the holidays of the negotiating parties.

We will meanwhile get to work with our framework members to prepare for this. You will receive a short survey from us soon. We would like to know your opinion on the negotiations and with which combination of salary and term you think we can reach a conclusion after the summer. To be continued!

Why is it free to join?

Did you know that we’ve included provisions in your collective agreement regarding free membership of the De Unie trade union? Of course, we negotiate your collective agreement, social plan and pension scheme. But did you know that we also support you – legally and in other ways – if you ever run into trouble with your bank? All you need to do is register with us; we’ll take care of the rest. Naturally, your membership is confidential; we never share personal data with employers.

And one more general appeal

The trade union federation for professionals, the VCP, has launched a petition to protest against this government’s austerity plans for social security. De Unie is a member of the VCP. You can support this protest by this online petition to draw.
