Pension Act

The Cabinet recently announced new pension legislation. The trade union federation VCP (where De Unie is affiliated with) has given a first reaction to it https://www.vcp.nl/nieuwe-pensioenwet-fundament-is-gelegd/† The new law supplements the previous pension law with concrete elaborations of the two pension contracts. The bill will be discussed in the 2nd and then 1st Chamber later this year with the intention of having the law take effect on January 1, 2023. From that date, the parties to the collective labor agreement can switch to one of the two pension contracts. Whether this succeeds depends not only on politicians, but also on the pension providers. They have to put the new legislation in their systems to be able to implement the choices made by the social partners.

Pension consultation

In the context of pension legislation, trade unions, employers and the SBZ pension fund have started a tripartite working group. In these consultations, we share information and agree on the future transition to a solidary or flexible pension scheme. SBZ provides us with information about the different types of participants, makes (customer) calculations and develops scenarios.

It is important for the parties to the collective labor agreement that the new pension legislation is finalized before we make choices about, among other things, the pension contract, transfer of pension rights already accrued in the new contract, the survivor's pension and transition compensation. We are therefore aiming somewhat for an implementation date of 1 January 2025 or as much earlier or later as necessary.

It is now the case that ZN is not the only party that is affiliated with SBZ and that deals with it. SBZ is an 'open' pension fund to which several employers are affiliated. ZN may be the largest party, but Univé and VGZ are also large affiliated employers who face the same choices. That is why there is mutual coordination so that we form a joint picture about, for example, the time schedule, type of pension contract and the like.

Trade unions, employers and the government have created a website to provide information to employees and employers about pensions. You can find everything about the legislative process, both pension contracts and questions and answers on https://www.werkenaanonspensioen.nl/.
