Tata Steel: Collective Labor Agreement negotiations have started!

March 04 2022

On February 23, 2022, we sat down with your employer for the first time to discuss a new collective labor agreement. During this kick-off, each party to the collective agreement explained its commitment to the collective labor agreement negotiations. Tata Steel still did that in outline. During our first real day of negotiations on March 2, 2022, Tata came up with more concrete proposals.

A cautious start to the negotiations

We have clustered the efforts of the parties to the collective labor agreement into a number of main themes. Those main themes are:

  1.  Income and maturity
  2.  Generation pact
  3.  Workload
  4.  Flexible working hours
  5.  Sustainable employability and development
  6.  Other proposals
  7.  Textual adjustments.

During our first day of negotiations, we discussed the main themes of the Generation Pact and Flexible Working Hours in detail. The efforts of Tata Steel and those of the trade unions still differ on these two themes. We have asked your employer for more substantiation of the conditions it has proposed for the Generation Pact and on the subject of flexible working hours. We will receive this substantiation before our next negotiation day. We have therefore not yet really negotiated on these two main issues. That will happen in a next round of negotiations.

At the end of our negotiating day on March 2, we have determined that during the next round of negotiations on March 9, we will mainly be discussing the main themes Income and duration and Work pressure.

In short, we haven't really negotiated yet. It was good to delve into the topics of Generation Pact and Flexible working hours. That helps us to be able to negotiate in a targeted manner next time.

The continuation of the negotiations

We will therefore continue with the collective labor agreement discussions on 9 March. They take place in the Dudok House. De Unie has its own group room there. We use these during the suspensions so that we as a negotiating delegation can further coordinate our positions. We do this not only among ourselves, but also with the members who are present in our group room at that time.

You can just walk into our group room at any time during a negotiation day. The fraction room opens at 08:30. I'll be there around 09:00 am. Negotiations start at 10:00 AM in the negotiating room and are for the negotiation delegation only. So are you curious how that goes during such a negotiation day? Walk into our group room. You are most welcome!
