NXP Semiconductors: Collective Labor Agreement 2022-2023

November 07 2022

After two preliminary discussions on Thursday 15 September and Thursday 6 October, negotiations took place for the first time on Wednesday 19 October. Due to other collective labor agreement results and in particular the outcome of the Collective Labor Agreement Metalektro, the height of the bar had already been set for us. If we are to believe the reports, the results of NXP can certainly be called good and that creates expectations. In order to reinforce these expectations, the joint employees' organization wanted to inform all colleagues on Friday 21 October by means of a flyer campaign in Nijmegen. This was repeated on Tuesday 25 October in Eindhoven.

In the meantime, the unions are trying to coordinate with each other as best as possible in which direction it should go and NXP had already declared itself willing to reach a collective labor agreement for a period of 12 months with a structural wage increase of 1% as of 6,5 February and also increasing the target bonus percentages to 5, 7 and 14%.

We are still negotiating

I, advocate John Kapteijn, have always emphasized that the urgency is high. Not only because the collective labor agreement should already have been replaced by new agreements as of 1 November 2022, but certainly also in view of the inflation that we are confronted with on a daily basis.

It should also come as no surprise that all the wage margin that is available will probably go to the structural enhancement of the wages. All other proposals could – under less pressure – be discussed in the run-up to the 2023-2024 collective labor agreement.

On Wednesday 9 November we will meet again for round II. On November 8, fellow unions (not all fellow unions) want to send a "final signal" to NXP. This is part of an action trajectory in the event that NXP does not sufficiently respond to the proposals. In close consultation with our executives, it was decided not to participate. There is enough confidence on our side in achieving a good negotiation result. Using a conflict model would put unnecessary pressure on the relationship.

There should still be enough room for a good wage offer for current staff, which is also attractive for new employees.

Reactions? Gladly!

I cannot emphasize enough that I am always very curious about your reactions. Do you agree with the above? Or do you see it completely differently? Let me know at john.kapteijn@unie.nl or call 06-5252 2067.
