Structural salary increase

The structural salary increase is a very important part of the collective labor agreement negotiations for many members. Salary negotiations are at an impasse. NN has made a wage offer of 4% with effect from July 1, 2024. De Unie believes this is not a basis for concluding a collective labor agreement. According to NN, there is no reason to make a higher salary offer. NN argues that employees are generally satisfied with the salary. According to the company, this is evident from the high Peakon score (particularly on the Engagement, Loyalty and Satisfaction components). NN is conducting another Peakon survey this month, so you may be able to take this information into account when completing the Peakon.

Social plan

The most important topic for the consultation on October 31 was the social plan.

De Unie divides the social plan into three blocks. The negotiations concern all three topics.

  1. Determining redundancy, the dismissal order and legal rules
  2. Preventing redundancy or unemployment
  3. Financial termination compensation

The first two topics were discussed extensively on October 31. The third topic has been postponed to the next meeting.

State of negotiations

Part C

NN has proposed to adjust the severance payment downwards. NN believes the social plan is too expensive, especially compared to the severance payments paid by other insurers. In previous discussions, the trade unions have indicated that they first want to clarify whether employees can sufficiently benefit from part B; the prevention of redundancy or unemployment.

However, the downsizing of the social plan proposed by NN will have to be discussed at some point. The adjustment proposed by NN is significant. Here you can view indicative calculations. Please note that in the social plan you calculate the gross salary, increased by holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus and personal allowances. In general, you can see that the change proposed by NN will mainly be detrimental to employees aged 50 and older with long employment.

Part A

This chapter includes the travel time criterion. This section was discussed extensively in the consultation of October 31.

Travel time criterion

The travel time criterion means that an employee who has to move from work and has a travel time of more than 1,5 hours cannot be forced to attend work. You can then opt for the social plan. NN wants to change this arrangement because most employees come to the office a maximum of twice a week. According to NN, this makes the social impact of the long travel time less onerous. NN made a new proposal on October 31. You can do this proposal here .

Part B

This includes the subject of sustainable employability and guidance of redundant workers. NN indicates that there is a lot of room and resources for developing employees, for example IT Works and other retraining programs. NN states that unfortunately, too little use is made of the many possibilities that the company offers. De Unie regularly receives signals that employees have not been included in the changes within NN and have therefore not yet started training and development. In addition, it appears that of the 357 employees who became redundant from January 2022 to October 2023, only 35 were placed internally. The trade unions have asked for an explanation about what is not going well with the guidance, since so few colleagues are guided from job to job.

The mobility center will provide an explanation about this in the next collective labor agreement negotiations. In order to properly prepare this consultation, we would like to ask you to share your experiences with training and guidance. We are looking for answers to the following questions, among others:

  • What is your experience?
  • Do you know whether you are in a future-proof position?
  • Are you encouraged to develop further and do you have discussions about this with your manager?
  • Do you have experience with the mobility center or can you share something about the experiences of former colleagues?

You can share your experience by sending an email to: peter.werger@unie.nl

Other subjects

We discussed NN's proposal to adjust the scheme for continued payment of wages in the event of illness. NN's proposal is to supplement the wages for the hours you do not work in the second year of illness to 85% instead of 100%.

The generation pact scheme, or an 80-90-100 scheme, has also been discussed. This proposal was submitted by De Unie. NN is willing to go along with this, but attaches a condition. In return, NN wants the trade unions to agree to changing the retirement age (68 years) to the state pension age (67 +). By means of De Unie has been asked whether NN would indicate in the next meeting how employees who are disadvantaged by bringing forward the retirement age will be compensated.

What can you do

The next meeting is on Thursday, November 9. In any case, the social plan and the structural salary increase are on the agenda. Please inquire De Unie about your experience with the topics of training and development at NN by sending an email to: Peter.Werger@unie.nl. Send your email no later than Wednesday, November 8, 2023, then we can take your input into account. And participate in the Peakon research.

Your colleagues may also be interested in collective labor agreement negotiations. You can of course forward this message, the more employees speak out, the better.
