Metalektro: Update collective labor agreement negotiations

09 September 2022

Yesterday, September 8, 2022, negotiations for the new Collective Labor Agreement Metalektro started. The first floor of Van der Valk's meeting center in Amersfoort was reserved for the various negotiating delegations. We used the kick-off of the negotiations to reflect on the past year and the challenges we face. In addition, we used the first day to explain our proposals letters. De Unie proposal letter you can here to look at.

Atmosphere good

In recent times, all those involved in the collective labor agreement have invested in mutual relationships and relationships. In addition, we have a strategic agenda drawn up. In any case, that paid off yesterday in a good mutual atmosphere. What also helps is that the proposals of the employers in the Metalektro contain little or no major proposals for deterioration. You can read the employers' proposals here to look at.

Challenges big

We used this first day of negotiations to discuss the challenges our supporters face in a more reflective way from the perspective of the various parties. From De Unie In any case, we see the purchasing power crisis, energy crisis and staff shortages as the biggest challenges for the sector. Employers see it that way too.

De Unie has therefore called on the social partners to behave as partners given the major challenges. By this we mean that we are open and honest with each other about the challenges we see for our supporters. And that we have an adult conversation about which agreements we want to make in order to face those challenges. In this way we offer the sector and its employees perspective. Which, in our opinion, should result in a new collective labor agreement that was agreed well before 1 December 2022. All parties have that intention. We therefore believe that the new collective labor agreement will be in place by 12 October at the latest.

First appointments made

We have therefore already made an energetic start and have made a number of agreements. Every year, the social partners check with the PME pension fund what the kilo price for pension is for the following year. We have agreed that we will leave the pension premium unchanged for 2023 and that - given the current interest rate - we assume that this premium is sufficient to build up a maximum pension for tax purposes. Because the pension fund only takes decisions about the kilo price of pension on 31 October of each year – based on the interest rate applicable on that day – we only know for sure whether the kilo price has remained the same.

We have also agreed that in the first quarter of 2023 we will start talks about a new pension contract for the Metalektro (and Metaal en Techniek). This is the result of new pension legislation that is now being discussed in the House of Representatives and the Senate. This is a result of years of negotiations and laid down in the Pension agreement van 2019.

In addition, we have agreed that we will deepen the strategic agenda. We have agreed that we will have a study carried out into the added value of the Metalektro, in which we will draw wider attention to the results and the beauty of our sector. The underlying idea that unknown makes unloved. We want to attract new employees with greater awareness of our cool sector.

What now?

September 21 we will talk further. We then make a long day to at least discuss all themes and proposals. And also to have heard the reaction of the other party. We assume that on that day employers will also make a wage offer to their employees (representation). After September 21, October 4 and 12 are also planned.

We will of course keep you informed via this newsletter. You can also follow us on Facebook en LinkedIn where we also make short blogs about the current state of affairs during the negotiations.
