De Unie has regular periodic consultations with ING. In this meeting we discuss various matters. This includes elaboration of collective labor agreements, reorganisations, developments at ING, preparation of policy developments and preparation of collective labor agreement consultations.

Periodic consultation May 12, 2022

On May 12, 2022, we had periodic consultations again. The agenda contained the following points for attention:

Planning collective labor agreement negotiations

The first collective labor agreement meeting is scheduled for 8 September 2022. I, Inge de Vries (representative), would like to consult with the members beforehand about our commitment to the new collective labor agreement. The preparation for this is done in consultation with the executives of De Unie started up.

The next collective labor agreement meetings are scheduled for the months of September, October and November. It is the intention of the parties to the collective agreement to be able to complete the negotiations before the end of this year.

Login time = working time

A court recently ruled in a case where employees had to be present to log in, so that they could immediately speak to customers at the start of their working hours. In this case, the judge was of the opinion that this login time should be counted as working time. De Unie ING has pointed out that this situation may also exist at ING. ING has now started an investigation into the working methods at the various business units. This subject will be discussed further in the next periodic meeting.

Quarterly figures ING

ING recently presented its quarterly figures. These have also been explained to the trade unions. The results for the first months are positive, according to ING. The war in Ukraine and the boycott of Russia did mean that ING had to take a large provision. But this reservation may be released once the issues are resolved. For the time being, ING appears to be on the right track to achieve the financial targets set for the year 2022.

Evaluation Step Up

Step Up is ING's performance management program. ING aims to stimulate the development of employees with this system and it is also the assessment system. ING has investigated how the different user groups rate Step Up. This resulted in some suggestions for improvement. It is to be expected that ING will make proposals to change Step Up during the collective labor agreement negotiations.


OWP is a name you may not immediately recognize. This plan applies if ING outsources a business unit and the employees have to transfer with their work to the new employer. In the OWP, trade unions and ING have made agreements about how the rights of employees are guaranteed. The term of the OWP ends on 31 December 2022. ING has indicated that it wishes to adjust the OWP. The amendments proposed by ING will be discussed in the next periodic meeting. This subject will probably also become part of the collective labor agreement negotiations.
