ING still has no sense of reality

As is known, the trade unions have made it a condition for the collective labor agreement negotiations at ING that ING should come up with a realistic starting offer. In the meantime, na De Unie and the CNV also the third trade union, FNV Finance submitted a letter of proposal to ING. FNV Finance explained this in a meeting with ING. It was clear in advance that negotiations would only take place if ING met the trade unions' condition, which is a realistic starting offer.

ING took the opportunity to make a new salary offer. ING now offers a 3% structural salary increase. With a possible extension of the collective labor agreement by an extra year. As far as we are concerned, this is not an offer that shows ING that they value the employees. They don't understand that, after two years of zero, in this time of high inflation and good business results, ING really has to offer a good structural salary increase. In addition, with this offer, ING ignores the many statements made by ING employees in the white paper and in the surveys conducted. Of course we, as trade unions, feel the duty to do justice to your signals. One thing is certain, ING certainly does not do that with its setup.

November 10: offer petition

As you have been able to read in the previous newsletters, unions have jointly drawn up a petition. We call on everyone this petition to draw and share with your colleagues. Have you already done this? Thank you very much for that.

Together with our members, we will present the petition on November 10, 2022. Make a note of this date in your diary, because we want to give this a lot of attention.

November 17 2022

The negotiation day of November 17 is still reserved in the agenda. But we must have the feeling that ING is serious about the interests of employees. We have therefore asked ING to notify the trade unions of the revised commitment for the negotiations by 14 November at the latest.

Point of view De Unie

De Unie responded in writing to ING's financial proposals. In this letter we explain why we believe that ING's proposals do not serve the interests of employees.

  • The scale increase as ING is now proposing will be a significant improvement for many employees
    turn out to be deterioration;
  • a promotion allowance of a maximum of 12% sounds nice, but not for the departments where the current maximum of 5,5% is not already being used;
  • ING has proposed a one-off payment in connection with the increased energy costs. Many companies now pay an extra allowance to employees in connection with the high energy costs. What De Unie As far as it is concerned, this is not part of the collective bargaining agreement, but something a decent employer should do now.
  • Working from home entails costs for the employee, but traveling to the office is also an expensive affair for many employees; ING proposes a compensation of € 2,00 for each day that you work from home. De Unie expected
    € 3,00 per day worked from home and a real internet allowance of € 40,00 per month. In addition, we want a kilometer allowance of 23 cents for employees who travel to the office by car, without maximizing the commuting mileage.
  • A lease car has become a cost item for job-related lease drivers, they have to pay for ING's sustainability ambitions, this has to change;
  • A reward for employees who take a horizontal step within ING is a nice gesture, but also for employees who are already at their maximum scale, they would receive nothing in ING's proposal.

We also add new proposals to our proposal letter. At ING, some employees appear not to be entitled to a stand-by allowance, while they do have to perform stand-by shifts. De Unie thinks this is unfair. Perhaps more injustices will come to light before November 17, 2022. De Unie will then expand the proposal letter even further.

What can you do

Obviously will De Unie please consult with ING. A collective labor agreement is concluded by discussing the interests of employees and the employer. But talking to an employer who has no knowledge of the day-to-day reality in which employees work and live does not help. That is why we make every effort to instill a sense of reality in ING. We will do this with your help, keep in touch with us, help make the petition a success and help make an impact on November 10th.

ING still has no sense of reality
CLA ING

As you know, the union's precondition for further CLA negotiations with ING is that they come up with a realistic wage increase offering. after De Unie and CNV, the third union, FNV Finance has now submitted their CLA proposal letter to ING. This proposal was clarified by FNV Finance in our meeting with ING.

It was made very clear upfront that negotiations can resume only after ING has made a more realistic offer.
ING has used the opportunity of this meeting to come up with a new starting offer. This new offer is a 3% wage increase and a possible extension with 1 year of the CLA. ING does not seem to understand that after two years of zero pay increase in this time of inflation, loss of purchasing power and really good profits, ING will need to come up with a proper salary increase as a starting point of the CLA negotiations. On top of that, ING ignores the many displays of dissatisfaction of ING employees as captured in the “white paper” and in the various surveys. As your representatives we have the obligation to follow up on these signals. At this moment, ING certainly doesn't.

November 10: handover petition

As you've read in our previous newsletters, we as unions have jointly drafted a petition. We call upon all of you to sign this and share it with your colleagues. Together with you, we will consider this petition to ING on the 10th of November. Please save this date in your calendar, for we want to ensure that this handover gets a lot of attention.

November 17

The date of 17th November negotiation (which was already planned) remains in our calendars but we need to know that ING seriously considers its employees interests. Therefore, we have requested ING to come up with an improved offer on 14th November, at the latest.

De Unie's position

De Unie has responded in writing to ING's financial proposals. In this letter we explain why we believe that ING's proposals do not serve the interests of employees.

  • The yearly inscale raise as ING is now proposing will turn out to be a disappointment for many employees as ING's proposals serves the interest of the company, not the interest of the employees;
  • A promotion allowance of a maximum of 12% sounds nice, but not when it involves the departments where the current maximum of 5.5% is already not being used;
  • ING offers a one off due to the high energy costs. Many companies now pay an extra allowance to employees in connection with the high energy costs. as far as De Unie is concerned, this is not part of the CLA negotiations, but something a decent employer ought to do.
  • Working from home is becoming expensive, but traveling to the office is expensive as well for many employees; ING proposes €2,00 for every day you work from home. De Unie expects €3,00 for every day you work from home, a monthly €40,00 internet compensation and €0,23 compensation per kilometer if you travel by car without limiting the commuting mileage.
  • By limiting the lease arrangement to electric cars without adjusting the lease amounts accordingly, ING completely passes the cost effects of its sustainability ambition through to the employees.
  • Due to the ING policy, a lease car for job related lease drivers has turned out to be very expensive for the employees.
  • A reward for employees who take a horizontal step within ING is a nice gesture, but also welcome for employees who are already at their maximum scale, in ING's proposal they end up empty handed again;

We also add new proposals to our proposal letter. At ING, some employees appear not to be entitled to a standby reimbursement, while they do have to perform standby shifts. We consider this unfair.
Perhaps more injustices will come to light before November 17, 2022. De Unie will expand the proposal letter if this is the case.

What can you do?

Naturally, De Unie would like to remain on speaking terms with ING. A collective labor agreement is concluded by discussing the interests of employees and the employer. But talking to an employer who has no knowledge of the day-to-day reality in which employees work and live doesn't help. That's why we make every effort to instill a sense of reality in ING. You've been helping so far, keep in touch with us, help make the petition a success and help make an impact on November 10th.
