Contract catering: collective labor agreement negotiations

March 15 2022

The current Collective Labor Agreement for Contract Catering runs until 1 April 2022. In a number of rounds in January, February and March, we are working on a new Collective Labor Agreement with agreements for different groups of employees. The current employees who now fall under the collective labor agreement for contract catering and (new) employees who work in contract catering and catering. This will then become the Collective Labor Agreement for Hospitality with a broader scope than the current Collective Labor Agreement for Contract Catering. In addition to discussions on the entire collective labor agreement, the social partners also simultaneously discuss the specific situation and employment conditions for the inflight.

Final phase

On 9 March, the social partners had a meeting with Works Council members from Compass, Sodexo, Albron, Hutten, Vitam and Vermaat about the negotiations. We discussed the communication about the negotiations, the scope, control body of the industry, the labor market & vacancies, benefits packages, universally binding declaration, wages, travel costs and ADV. The Works Council representatives mainly appealed to the social partners to come to a new collective labor agreement for the sector and not to end up 'empty-handed'. We heard that call right. As soon as we are one step further, we organize a follow-up meeting with each other.

After an initial consultation with the Horeca & Catering pension fund and the early retirement fund SUCON II, it is clear that a generation pact scheme is feasible for the entire sector. A follow-up appointment is now being planned to investigate how a generation pact scheme can be organized (pension), technically, legally and fiscally. A small group from trade unions, Veneca, SUCON and the pension fund are now going to look into this. After that, it is up to the parties to the collective labor agreement to make a decision. To be continued.

On Monday 14 March 2022, employers and trade unions discussed the employment conditions for current employees in contract catering and (new) employees in hospitality. You can tell from everything that we have reached the final phase. The will is there to get out with each other, but we are not yet. CLA parties are still chewing on wages and terms. On all the other remaining points we seem to be or to be in line. On March 21, we will continue to negotiate a new sector collective labor agreement and a separate section for inflight.

If we cannot reach an agreement in the coming discussions, there is a real possibility that there will no longer be a sector collective labor agreement for contract catering and hospitality. Employers have linked the continued existence of employers' association Veneca to the realization of the collective labor agreement for hospitality.
