October 27, 2022

The most important subject of these collective labor agreements is the structural salary increase. High inflation, rising living costs and high energy costs make it necessary to ask for a substantial structural salary increase.

Salary Survey

De Unie in a survey asked members to express their views on the structural salary increase. The results of this survey provide guidance in the collective labor agreement negotiations. The questions have been answered as follows:

  1. a To what extent do you think that price increases should be compensated by
    collective (CLA) wage increases?
  • The largest group (47,5%) believes that the price increases should be (more than) fully compensated;
  • About 14% indicate that employees and employers should bear the costs equally;
  • 39% believe that employers should compensate for more than 50% of the price increases, but not in full.
  1. b Which collective salary increase (on an annual basis) do you think is for your organization /
    industry real?
  • The largest group (approximately 39%) is aiming for a structural salary increase of 7 to 8%;
  • 16% think a lower percentage is realistic;
  • 29% think a higher percentage is realistic;
  • A reasonably large group of 16% does not mention a percentage.
  1. c As far as you are concerned, how should collectively wage increases take place?
  • 47,50% of the respondents indicate that the collective labor agreement wage increase must be paid in percentages;
  • 50% want the wage increase partially paid in cents.

The members of De Unie are really divided on this subject.

The conclusion is that the members De Unie give some room to negotiate the amount of the structural salary increase.

Financial components

In addition to the structural salary increase, negotiations De Unie of course also about the reimbursement for working from home, travel allowance or a one-off payment. These employment conditions can also contribute to giving you a little more financial space.

Employees who have a salary higher than the maximum of the salary scale often do not benefit from a collective salary increase. Now that inflation is so high, this group of employees should not be forgotten. That may be one of the reasons why so many members indicate that it is important that part of the salary increase is paid in cents.

I, advocate Inge de Vries, would like to receive more input from the members on this subject.

Collective labor agreement 26 October

Collective negotiations were held on 26 October 2022. Trade unions and employers have examined which subjects they can reach agreement on, and which proposals from our letters will have to be passed on to the next collective labor agreement. The most important thing is of course to investigate how we can reach agreement on the structural salary increase. Trade unions on the one hand and employers on the other are far apart on this subject.

Because the parties had not exchanged enough by the end of the day, we have agreed an extra meeting on November 3, 2022. On this day we want to complete the first round of negotiations. It has been agreed to communicate about the progress of the negotiations after 3 November.
