General Banks: collective labor agreement negotiations

December 07 2021

Everything you need to know about collective bargaining

The next collective labor agreement meeting will be held on 14 December. The agenda includes the proposals as submitted by De Unie and by the other trade unions and the employer's proposals. This is a lot of conversation topics.

Preparation by trade unions

To speed up the process, I wrote a response to the employers' proposals together with colleagues from the other trade unions. The employers' delegation is therefore already aware of the position of the trade unions. They can discuss this with the other employers. You can here Read what the position of the joint trade unions is.

Preparation De Unie

I, advocate Inge de Vries, get questions from members who want to know how employers respond to the proposals of De Unie. So far I have received few substantive responses. The consultation has yet to begin.

The proposals of De Unie are briefly summarized:

  • A term of one year
  • A salary increase of 4%
  • Including the option of saving leave in the collective labor agreement
  • Making voluntary early retirement possible with an allowance (RVU scheme)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Home work allowance and home work agreements
  • Improving employability scheme, especially in the field of health
  • Pension agreements in connection with the transition to the new pension system

The aim is to get enough of our proposals in the collective bargaining negotiations. At the moment, all our proposals are still on the table.

How does the collective labor agreement work?

Four parties are involved in this collective labor agreement. The Banking Employers' Association (WVB), which represents various banks and three trade unions. All four parties want to realize a large part of their ideas in the negotiations. It often helps to start with the topics that are important to everyone.

The proposals of the other trade unions partly overlap with the proposals of De Unie. But partly they have very different proposals. The themes put forward by the employers are also partly the same as the themes of De Unie. However, the approach of the employers is often quite different. This is the case, for example, with pensions, salary increases, home working arrangements and employability. We must negotiate on these issues in order to reach a reasonable solution for all parties. Salary and pension are difficult subjects, because the parties are far apart. The employers do not want to finance parental leave, but have proposed to supplement the birth leave.

The employers have not made any proposals for the subjects of leave savings and RVU. Strong negotiations will have to be conducted on these issues.

Continuation

The collective labor agreement consultations will continue on Tuesday 14 December 2021. We have reserved an afternoon for the meeting. That's not much time. After this consultation you will receive another report from me. We have also scheduled negotiation dates for January 6 and 20, 2022.
