Aegon: Negotiations collectively and social plan

June 10, 2022

At the end of April 2022 we started negotiations for a new Aegon collective labor agreement and a new social plan as of 1 July 2022. On 9 June 2022 we discussed wages, social plan, employability, diversity & inclusion and leave.

Loon

In the previous consultation, the employer made a wage offer of 2%. We propose to conclude a collective labor agreement for two years with a 5% wage increase as of 1 July of each year. Aegon states that the gap between the parties to the collective agreement is large. We share that opinion.

Employees have asked us questions about Aegon's scaling proposal:

  • How can Aegon's proposal be budget neutral?
  • What is the difference from the five-point scale rating that was there before?
  • How does this work out for the different groups of employees between and within the scales?

Aegon says it wants to get all employees to 85-90% of their scale faster. Now there is money left over within the existing budget and with the existing review scores. Then the proposal ends up with the employees more than in Aegon's greenhouse. This seems like a good idea to us, but we'll come back to it in the next round.

Social plan

Aegon wants to make the existing social plan 10% cheaper.  De Unie Aegon has made a counter-proposal to extend the social plan by four years. The employer states that they no longer want to cut back on the social plan after that 10%. That austerity can then be done in two steps with effect from 2024. Aegon is thinking about it and will respond to it next time.

Others

We also discussed transitional leave, rainbow families, parental leave, sabbatical and diversity day. We'll get there together. We are also on the same page about employability. Parties want to focus more on competences and skills than on job-oriented development. We also want to increase the people manager qualities of management through leadership training and coaching. We want to get more (priori) time for development, but we are looking for the best way to achieve this. So to be continued.

Continuation

The fourth round of negotiations will follow soon, on Tuesday 14 June 2022. Then we will discuss hybrid working and social relevance/sustainability. It is Aegon's turn to respond to our proposals on wages, scaling and social plan.

What do the members think?

Many responses have been received in response to our latest feedback! It is very important to get the opinion of our members on the different proposals. All responses will of course remain confidential. We are once again looking forward to the feedback on this round of negotiations.
