Achmea: Position of De Unie upon introduction of a mandatory 34-hour working week

To discuss the current situation within Achmea with each other, I, advocate Inge de Vries, would like to invite the members to a members' meeting. De Unie has not signed the Achmea CLA, this is an exceptional situation. It is unusual for the employer's proposals to have been so unfavorable to parts of the employees that it has led to a rejection. De Unie would like to explain to members the negotiation process. And of course we want to enable members to ask questions. Reinier Castelein, chairman of De Unie, our employment conditions coordinator (Erwin Rog) and the strategy and policy manager (Bart Willems) will be present with me.

The members' meetings are scheduled on:

Date March 9, 2020 March 10, 2020

Location Apeldoorn Tilburg

Time 17.00 pm to 19.00 pm 17.00 pm to 19.00 pm

De Uniemembers have received an invitation to register. We will announce the exact location.

Why this members meeting?

The CLA 2020 is through De Unie not signed, one of the main reasons for the majority of members to reject the collective labor agreement was the introduction of the 34-hour working week. De Unie finds it important to explain to members how this came about, and what consequences the employer attaches to this. We also want to discuss how De Unie can give shape and content to the terms of employment within Achmea in 2020 and 2021.

What is the cause?

The negotiated result for a new collective labor agreement, including the introduction of a 34-hour working week, has been achieved by the members of De Unie turned down. Naturally, we have communicated to Achmea that, in the interests of the members, we wish to remain constructively involved in the consultation regarding the introduction of the 34-hour working week. Achmea has announced that De Unie is excluded from participation in the consultation on the introduction of the 34-hour working week. We think this is disappointing and does not fit within current labor relations.

What now?

De Unie obviously do not abandon the members. We will of course continue to insist on full participation in the employment conditions consultation within Achmea. Now we are allowed to participate in part and in part not. Together with de Uniemembers we want to work on a good solution where De Unie can continue to represent the interests of the members as you are used to from us.

What can a Union member do?

Are there any colleagues who are interested in the introduction of the 34-hour working week? Then invite them to De Unie to follow: www.unie.nl/volg-de-unie. As a result, we increase our reach, we get more substantive arguments to be able to take a well-considered and supported position and the employees are informed about the developments within Achmea!

Share members De Unie do agree

A third of the members have indicated that they can agree to the collective labor agreement. The members' meeting on 9 or 10 March also concerns these Union members.
