Update: where do we stand with the pension agreement?

April 08, 2021

The draft legal texts and the Explanatory Memorandum for the pension agreement were published in December 2020. Anyone could respond to this via an internet consultation. A number of members have via De Unie commented on the proposals, thank you very much for that. In total, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment received about 800 responses.

The next step

The ministry is now busy making an inventory of all responses and will assess whether and how amendment of the draft legislation is desirable. Minister Koolmees has announced that the final legislation will be sent to the Lower House after the summer. The intended effective date of the legislation is January 1, 2022. After that, a transition period will start until January 1, 2026 at the latest, during which employers and employees can make new agreements about pension schemes.
