Benefit and wages from work? Then your monthly benefit will probably increase

17 August 2021

Do you receive unemployment benefits or sickness benefits from the UWV, but do you also have an income from work? In that case, the UWV will settle this wage with your benefit: the more you earn yourself, the less you will receive in benefits. The benefits agency also takes into account holiday pay that you receive from your employer. However, the way in which they calculate this and settle it with your benefit has changed on 1 July 2021. Below we briefly explain what this means for you.

This is how it worked until July 1, 2021

If you received benefits and earned wages by working, the UWV added 8 percent to your work income every month. This is how much holiday pay you will receive. The benefits agency settled this amount – so your income plus 8 percent holiday pay – against your benefit every month. Even if you do not receive your holiday pay every month, but once a year.

That's how it works now

Since 1 July 2021, the UWV no longer adds this holiday allowance to your monthly work income if you receive all your holiday allowance for the year at one time. From now on, the UWV will only settle your holiday allowance against your benefit in the month after you have received the holiday allowance.

What does this mean for you?

Your monthly benefit will be higher, because the UWV no longer adds your holiday allowance to your work income. You will notice this for the first time in August: then you will receive the payment for July. You will only receive no or a lower benefit for the month in which you received holiday pay.

The UWV has already informed everyone to whom this applies in writing.
