Quarantine and work: how do you combine them?

February 03 2022

The rules around quarantine change every few weeks. Confusing in itself, but completely complex if you also have to combine your isolation with your work. If you can work from home and feel good, then fortunately there is little to worry about. But what if you can't work from home? Or are you sick? Our legal specialists explain it in this blog.

The last lines

The quarantine rules and advice that apply now may be completely different after the next press conference. That is why we would like to refer you to the website of the national government. There is always the latest information. This is how you can get the quarantine check do, read more about the rules and advice around quarantine en insulation, and find you there information for families with children.

Quarantine and work: how do you combine them?

If you can work from home, there is no problem. Then you can continue to work in quarantine – unless you are sick of course, more about that in a moment. If you work from home during your quarantine, try to communicate clearly with your employer and colleagues. For example about:

  • when you are available on the day and when you are not;
  • what your colleagues can expect from you;
  • what you do get around to and what others can better take over from you;
  • until when your or your child's quarantine lasts.

Do you not have to quarantine yourself, but do you have to stay at home with your child and therefore can't work? Then you can take regular leave for this. If there is a situation in which you have to act urgently, for example because you suddenly have to pick up your child from school? Then you can make use of the emergency leave.

Do you have to quarantine and can't work because of that? In that case, too, of course, you must report this to your employer. Whether you are sick or not: you follow government measures, so your employer must continue to pay your wages. Are you ill? Then the regular sickness rules apply and you will continue to be paid 70 percent of your wages – unless you are entitled to more according to your employment contract.

Always keep the rules of the government and GGD closely monitor.
