New job after your unemployment, how does that work?

December 09 2021

If you are fired and you are (temporarily) out of work, you can apply for unemployment benefits from the UWV. The UWV obliges you to apply and encourages you to return to work as soon as possible. Hopefully this will work too. But what actually happens to you benefit when you start a new job finds: does it stop or run- is he still on? We list what you should take into account to hold.

Congratulations with your new job!

Glad you found a job again, congratulations! You have work again, new colleagues and of course a salary. Whether or not your unemployment benefit stops depends on two things: your new income and your so-called monthly unemployment benefit. This last amount is in the letter from the UWV about the granting of your unemployment benefit. Three things can happen with your benefit.

1. Your benefit stops

If you start earning more than 87,5 percent of your monthly unemployment benefits, your benefit will stop. You pass on your new income via the Change form 'I'm going to work part or full'. The UWV will then send you a letter to indicate that your unemployment benefits will end. Only when you have received this do you officially have nothing to do with the UWV anymore and your obligations, such as reporting your income and applying for a job, stop. You must therefore continue to do this until you have received the letter from the UWV.

2. You will receive a supplement op your salary

If your new salary is 87,5 percent of your WW monthly wage or less, you can receive an additional WW benefit from the UWV. You must then continue to pass on your income and meet the application requirement. Ultimately, it is the intention that you completely get out of WW.

3. I ends your unemployment benefit yourself

If you earn 87,5 percent or less of your WW monthly wage, it may be worthwhile to stop your WW benefit yourself: this way you keep the duration of your unemployment benefit. Stopping yourself is possible if you work approximately the number of hours on which your unemployment benefit is based. You can work more, but also (maximum 5 hours) less. Do you want to stop the benefit yourself? Please indicate this via the Change form 'I want to stop my supplementary unemployment benefit'. As soon as the UWV has confirmed the termination in writing, you no longer have any obligations.
