A new job is a big step forward, but what does this mean for your unemployment benefit? The answer depends on your new income and your unemployment benefit monthly salary, which is stated in your award letter from the UWV. In this article you can read which scenarios are possible and what you can do.
Your benefits will stop
If you earn more than 2% of your WW monthly salary for 87,5 months in a row, your benefit will stop completely. This means that you will no longer receive additional payments. Do not forget to report your new income via the change formAlways wait for the confirmation letter from the UWV before you stop reporting income or applying for jobs.
Supplement to your salary
Do you earn 87,5% or less of your unemployment benefit monthly salary? Then you may be entitled to a supplementary unemployment benefit. On the UWV website further information about this can be found here. It is important to report your income monthly and to continue applying for jobs. After all, the goal remains to get out of unemployment benefits completely.
Terminate your unemployment benefit yourself
In some situations it may be wise to stop your unemployment benefit yourself. For example, if you work approximately the number of hours on which your benefit is based. You can arrange this via the change form 'I want to stop my supplementary unemployment benefit'. After written confirmation from the UWV, all your obligations, such as reporting income and applying for jobs, will lapse. There is a difference between the right to stop unemployment benefit and to stop the payment. For this, please see the UWV website about stopping unemployment benefits yourself.
