Dairy sector: collective labor agreement update – actions of other unions

April 26, 2023

The improved final offer was rejected by the members of the other two unions. Our fellow unions have indicated that they are prepared to campaign for a better offer. They have sent an ultimatum to the NZO. In this ultimatum they fall back on the demands in their proposal letter and give the employers a deadline to agree to their conditions, otherwise they will start actions. This ultimatum expires today, Wednesday 26 April 2023. The NZO has indicated in communication that it will not make an improved offer, they believe that they have made an adequate offer. They await any action.

Is the improved final offer still valid now that the other unions have rejected it?

Yes, the improved final offer of the NZO is still valid. The previous final offer was accepted by a small majority De Unie. There are no deteriorations in the improved final offer. Therefore, formally we do not have to repeat the vote. Our members agree with the improved proposal. However, there is still no basis for a collective agreement with all parties.

What can I expect now?

When this day ends, the other unions will start announcing actions. De Unie does not participate in this, because a majority of the members have agreed with the final offer. The process can start with light actions, but it can also be immediate work interruptions in different locations. It is not possible to indicate in advance how this will go, how long it will take or what the concrete next steps will be. As unions, we often choose to announce actions in the short term, so that the employer has as little room as possible to prepare. De Unie is still open to concluding a collective labor agreement, but of course we also support the other unions in their process.

Can I also take action as a member of De Unie?

De Unie does not call a strike, because we have accepted the final offer. When an action is formally declared by a union, every employee is free to participate in these actions. This only applies if you work at the location where the strike is declared. If you disagree with the final offer, you are therefore free to take action. Employees who are not members of a union are also allowed to take part in campaigning. You can find the answers to other frequently asked questions here read back in the Q&A.
