Reduction of working hours
This time we discussed the subject of a standard 32-hour workweek (instead of the standard 36-hour workweek that ING currently has). This is not a subject that is discussed by De Unie has been proposed. But the subject is on the agenda for November 4. And De Unie must also have a position on this subject. We would like to do this in consultation with the members.
Opinion members meeting
The majority of members urged caution in negotiating a short working week. But there were also positive opinions.
Some arguments against
- The workload is very high, ING employees are more likely to work more hours than less
- Working fewer hours should not be a substitute for a salary increase
- From scale 11, overtime is not paid
- ING focuses on efficiency to achieve cost reduction
- Risk that it will lead to more work abroad
Arguments for
- 4 day workweek is positive (but this can also be done with a 36 hour workweek)
- It makes ING an attractive employer for young people
- It can provide new impetus to the company if people tackle this challenge together
- It can work if everyone can choose individually
There were also many questions about how the standard 32-hour workweek should be shaped. The consultation has not yet reached that stage. On 4 November, the question will be on the table whether the standard 32-hour workweek is a good idea for ING employees and for the organisation. If that question is answered positively, consultation will follow on how this can be shaped.
What can you do
De Unie is working on fair collective labor agreement negotiations for all ING employees. De Unie focuses on the wage paragraph, we point out the loss of purchasing power in recent years, which has been (partially) recovered by other companies.
And we want to agree on a good structural salary increase for 2025.
You can help by informing your colleagues about the proposal De Unie.
- Talk to your colleagues about the collective labor agreement negotiations and refer them to the website of De Unie: www.unie.nl/ing
- Print here our posters and hang them in your office (in the places designated by the organization).
- Convince your colleagues to join De Unie. Anyone who becomes a member between now and November 30 can take advantage of the union month offer. ING will then pay for the first year of membership.
