VDL Nedcar: Termination of consultations on new social plan

The employer has informed the employees that the management of VDL Nedcar ended the first consultation about a new social plan before we could start last week. The reason for this is the content of the pamphlet of one of the other trade unions, which was shared with its members after our previous consultation.

Consultation social plan abruptly stopped!

According to the employer, the pamphlet in question made the accusation that the management of VDL Nedcar did not make sufficient efforts to win new contracts. The employer thinks this is unjustified and for that reason the consultations have been abruptly stopped until the FNV withdraws the culpability.

We're blown away!

We are overwhelmed by this employer's decision and we strongly disagree that the consultations on a new social plan are canceled for that reason. We have also informed the employer of this.

Freedom of speech!

We believe that every party is free to communicate his/her vision or point of view about anything, as long as it is not against the laws and regulations in the Netherlands. That is the foundation of our democracy.

Of course, the employer may not agree with a vision or point of view, but that is no reason to cancel a meeting that is about the interests of approximately 4.000 employees. The employer could also have asked for a substantiation of the point of view. That is why it is incomprehensible to us why the employer has ended consultations with all trade unions.

Further escalation must be prevented!!

De Unie calls on the employer to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible and to restart consultations for a new social plan with all trade unions. We must do everything we can to prevent further escalation of the situation that has arisen. No one has an interest in this and especially the employees of VDL Nedcar are not helped by this. They are becoming increasingly uncertain about their future at VDL Nedcar.

A new social plan is necessary against growing uncertainty!

That is why we must hurry to agree on a new robust and sustainable safety net. This can be done by adjusting parts of the current redundancy plan, allowing employees more control over their own choices regarding their future prospects at VDL Nedcar.

We will do our utmost in the coming days to bring all parties back together. Where there is a will, there is also a way! We must keep talking in the interest of all employees at VDL Nedcar. As long as we keep talking, we can find solutions for all bottlenecks!
