UWV: pension information

De Unie has been studying the new pension scheme at the UWV for some time now. This study is being carried out with a view to the likely introduction of the new Future Pensions Act (WTP). This law is still being discussed by the Dutch parliament. If the WTP is adopted, the UWV pension scheme must be adjusted.

Project structure

A clear project structure will first be set up in 2022. Important decisions are taken in the Pension Transition Steering Group. The steering committee consists of the employer, pension fund and the trade unions. The decisions of the steering committee are prepared by a technical working group. A sounding board group has also been set up in which stakeholders are included in the progress of the project.

Progress 2022

Around the summer I informed you about the progress of the project. The collective labor agreement negotiations now require a great deal of attention. But preparations for the new pension scheme are also continuing. I, advocate Inge de Vries, would like to inform you about the progress made in the second half of the year. Explanation

One of the first steps is the choice of the type of pension scheme. It concerns the choice between a solidaire pension scheme (with or without starting), flexible pension scheme (with or without starting) and the premium payment agreement. Many calculations have to be made in the further study for the new pension scheme. This takes a lot of time (and money). That is why it is desired to drop a number of variants. In order to work towards that choice, the parties involved have gone through a careful process over the past nine months. It is important to note that the steering group has not yet made a final choice. There is a preferential scheme and a second scenario with an alternative pension scheme.

De Unie has worked hard to include two pension variants in the further study. There are two main reasons for this:

  • You cannot judge whether a draft pension scheme offers good prospects for employees and pensioners if you cannot make a comparison with other variants.
  • Many members of De Unie indicate that they have no confidence in the accrued pensions being paid into the new scheme. It is important to them that a serious investigation is carried out into the effects on employees and pensioners if you do not enter the ship.

I am glad that I received the support of other trade unions, so that I succeeded in keeping two variants (solidarity contribution scheme with entry and flexible contribution arrangement without entry) in the study.

Continued 2023

In 2023 it will continue De Unie continued working on the pension transition in the steering group.

The objectives for 2023 are as follows:

  • Agreement on the concrete details of the new pension scheme;
  • Agreement on the future of the historic arrangements;
  • Agreements about possible compensation measures;
  • Draft transition plan including proposed decisions on the type of contract, the content of the scheme, whether or not to enter and financing the compensation.

A lot needs to be done in the coming year. The pension transition is an important project because it can have financial consequences.

Current pension scheme

There are also developments in the current pension scheme. The board of the pension fund took a decision in November about additional indexation for the year 2022. The pension fund recently announced that the pensions of UWV employees can be indexed by 1% as of 2023 January 2,7. Pensioners' pensions will increase by 7,5% on the same date.
