Survey result De Unie at ING

De Unie launched a survey because we wanted to better understand what the opinion of our supporters is. The results of the survey provide good insight into this.

71% of the surveys were completed by members of De Unie. The answers of employees who are not members of De Unie do not differ significantly.

Taking action?

To the question: Are you prepared to take action?, 82% of the respondents answered positively, with the largest group indicating that it must be a collective action. 3% of the respondents are not prepared to take action and 15% are not sure yet.

The survey also asked which actions appealed to them. There is a differentiated response to this. Both strikes, reverse strikes and punctuality actions are ticked by more than 50% of the respondents. But activities to make the collective bargaining dispute more visible are still necessary, according to many respondents.

The question: Do you think direct colleagues will participate? has been answered in various ways. The willingness of colleagues is important because many people have indicated that they consider the collective to be important. In addition, we try to make collective bargaining widely known so that your colleagues who are not members of a trade union also know why actions are being taken. The answer to this question was:

  • Most colleagues will participate in promotions 32%
  • Fifty-fifty 26%
  • No, most colleagues will not participate 11%
  • Don't know 20%

The question of what we can do to increase the willingness of colleagues to take action is answered very diversely: more in English, more explanation, make a clear plan. These are good advice. But the other side was also highlighted: a bank is not going on strike, people are afraid of losing their jobs.

Structural salary increase

We have been in talks with ING for several months without actually coming to collective bargaining. The reason for this is that ING's salary proposal is really too low. The negotiating delegation of De Unie naturally also takes into account other financial employment conditions, such as the individual salary increase as of April 1, 2023, the CMU benefit, homework allowance and promotion increase. But the structural salary increase is important for all employees and the most expensive subject in the negotiations. And it is precisely on this subject that ING has unrealistically low ideas. In the survey, the question was asked at which opening offer from ING, De Unie should enter into negotiations? The answer to this is as follows:

  • If ING offers 5% 18%
  • If ING offers 6% 39%
  • Directly without preconditions 18%
  • At a different percentage 27%

For the answer option other percentage, the majority of the respondents mentioned a percentage higher than six. This gives a clear picture of the expectations of the constituency.
