On April 14, 2025, De Unie and her fellow unions, together with over 1000 Tata Steel employees, presented a letter of demands to the management. We wanted Tata Steel to go through the process of the announced reorganization in a different way. Because Tata Steel did not respond to our main demands, we held a next demonstration on May 12, 2025.

Tata Steel has listened
Tata Steel has listened to our concerns. For us, building a healthy steel company with prospects for employees is our most important starting point. The CEO of Tata Steel Limited in India, Mr. TV Narendran, has therefore drawn up a statement in which he explicitly outlines that prospect. You can read Mr. Narendran's statement here.
In addition, Tata Steel Nederland (TSN) has now made the reduction of personnel costs central and no longer a reduction of 1600 FTE as the ultimate objective. This does not mean that there will no longer be a significant reduction in personnel. Personnel costs still have to be reduced, as part of your employer's total plan to reduce costs.
The third important requirement that Tata Steel previously refused to meet has now been met. In the upcoming reorganization, your employer has no concrete plans for outsourcing. Tata Steel does not rule out outsourcing in the future, but in the upcoming reorganization it is off the table.
Hans van den Berg has De Unie and her fellow unions a letter in which he responds to our letter of demands of April 14, 2025. You can read the letter here.
What now?
The next important moment is the announcement of the detailed plans of the reorganization. TSN has indicated that these detailed plans will be announced on June 13, 2025. Then we will know how big the staff reduction will really be and where exactly that reduction will take place.
After we receive the detailed plans, we will study them. In addition, we will keep in close contact with the COR to gauge what they think of the plans. Based on that, we will determine if De Unie our further position in this process.
Walk-in consultation De Unie
We can imagine that the announced reorganization and the uncertainties that still exist about it raise questions for you.
De Unie is therefore organizing a walk-in consultation hour at Tata Steel. This walk-in consultation hour is on:
- Date: Wednesday, June 11, 2025
- Time: from 11.15 a.m. to 16.00 p.m.
- Location: room “007 Breesaperhof” in the conference centre.
Our advocate Hans Korver is working in that space. If you want to ask us a question or tell us something, you can drop in on Hans during that time. He will speak to you.
