Global reorganization
The reorganization at Facebook Netherlands is part of a larger reorganization at Meta worldwide. Meta has informed the unions in the Netherlands about the planned reorganizations and asked whether they would like to be involved in the process as stakeholders. De Unie Meta was the only union to respond and, together with the Works Council (Meta's Works Council), conducted discussions with the employer. Meta requested that these discussions be conducted confidentially to avoid causing unrest among its staff.
Social plan
In order to limit the adverse consequences for the affected employees, De Unie contacted Meta to draw up a social plan. Meta's wish to conduct the discussions confidentially is not in line with how De Unie usually works. Therefore, prior to the discussions, it was agreed to use the social plan implemented in 2023 as the basis for a new social plan that will also apply to the upcoming reorganization. In the view of De Unie generous, both compared to social plans in other sectors and in the tech sector.
Process
Together with the Works Council, De Unie We held constructive discussions with Meta. There was ample opportunity for all parties involved to exchange and substantiate their positions. There was clear tension due to the confidentiality of the discussions and the time pressure exerted by Meta. Nevertheless, we achieved a result that meets the requirements, namely the documenting and improvement of the 2023 social plan, which received broad support from our members at the time.
Result
The key points for affected employees are:
When signing a settlement agreement
- Ex-Gratia
- 18 weeks gross weekly wage
- Additional Ex-Gratia
- Twice the total target cash per pro rata year of service
- Signing bonus
- 3 times the total target cash
- Transition period
- 4 months, excluding signing period (2 weeks) and cooling-off period (2 weeks)
Recording social plan
- Applicability
- The social plan is established for 2,5 years, from July 01, 07 to December 2025, 31
