Philips: New reorganization

January 30 2023

Another huge blow (wave of layoffs) and disappointment!

Rumors in the media last week about thousands of redundancies at Philips turned out to be correct. New plans from the new CEO Roy Jakobs do not bode well for the job retention and future prospects of many hardworking and loyal employees in the Netherlands. It is incomprehensible that Philips now again wants to lay off a huge number of employees and redeploy them internally, while the impact of the latest reorganization is still very tangible among the employees.

When will it end?

The great uncertainty that arose then, due to the announcement of the global reorganization that would result in 4000 employees losing their jobs, has unfortunately become even worse among employees about their future at Philips. This will in any case remain the case for the next two years, because the implementation of the announced changes will take at least two years.

Uncertainty has never been so intense!

The phone has been on since last week De Unie not quiet. Messages also continue to arrive via email from many worried members and non-members. They would like to find out as soon as possible whether they still have a future at Philips.

Philips wants to regain customer and shareholder confidence, but at what cost?

According to Philips' management, the announced changes are necessary to return Philips to profitability and regain customer confidence. We wonder what the cost will be and whether Philips is also concerned about retaining and regaining employee confidence. That seems to have received a big blow since the new CEO started working at Philips. A lot of employees have already left for ASML and other surrounding companies and we are afraid that this will only increase.

Employees are entitled to certainty and in the short term!

In order to quickly obtain certainty for the employees, we will consult with the management in the very short term. We demand clarity for everyone in the short term and not in two years' time about the concrete consequences of the announced changes for individual employees. They are entitled to that! The labor market is still favorable at the moment, but we don't know whether that will still be the case in two years' time. We also want to know from the employer with whom, what talent and knowledge will he make Philips profitable again if it will not be available in sufficient quantities?
