Philips IT Reorganization

July 06, 2022

The reorganization announced yesterday by Philips comes as a surprise. Organizational changes had already been made recently, but this had not led to forced redundancies. So that is now about to change.

Outsourcing

Of course, Philips has been moving work to low-cost countries such as Poland, Panama and India for years. In 2019, another 230 jobs in the sales department were moved to Poland. At the time, this was at the expense of work in Eindhoven.

Sleep Apnea Issue

Philips apparently sees a reason to review the expenditure. It has been reported in various media that the sleep apnea issue has already cost Philips 900 million euros and the end does not seem to be in sight. Through a reorganization, Philips can make substantial savings on personnel costs.

Proposed reorganization

The plans for a reorganization have yet to be assessed by the Philips Works Council. De Unie will monitor this process closely. The current social plan that has been agreed with the trade unions will expire at the end of 2023.
