October 08, 2024

De Unie has, together with the other unions and employers in the Metal and Electrical Industry, the intention to switch to a new pension contract from 1 January 2026. The Future Pensions Act (WTP) stipulates that we switch by 1 January 2028 at the latest.

From commitment to outline agreement to a draft transition plan

At the end of 2023, we updated members on the state of affairs regarding pensions. This also included our pension application letter explained. First of all, in March 2024 there is a outline agreement concluded between trade unions and the employers' association FME. This outline agreement was then further elaborated with the involvement of all parties and with the support of two actuaries into a concept transition planThis transition plan is the timetable for how we will move from the current pension contract (an average salary scheme) to the new pension contract (a solidarity premium scheme). The actuary who (also) represents De Unie Hamadi Zaghdoudi, co-author of the transition plan, Head of Retirement Benelux at Willis Towers Watson.

Interactive Webinar

Because we understand that this transition is not an everyday occurrence and that there is a lot to tell about it, Hamadi Zaghdoudi and Gertjan Tommel will be presenting Wednesday, October 9, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM together give a webinar on the concept transition plan. The members have received an invitation to participate in this webinar.

What are we discussing?

We will discuss the old-age pension and the survivor's pension for the partner and/or children. In addition, we will update you on the compensation for the abolition of the average system and what it entails. We will also discuss the solidarity reserve, what it entails and how that reserve works. We will also discuss how the financial situation of the pension fund affects the various scenarios that we have described. We will also point out that you can also make the necessary choices yourself during the build-up of your pension, when changing jobs outside our sector, and upon retirement. We will take you through the agreements on the shift work allowance. We will also discuss the agreements on pension accrual above an annual salary of 89.382 (level 2024).

Meet the speakers

Hamadi is an extremely suitable actuary to convey difficult material in an understandable way. Hamadi will focus on the content of the new pension contract and what guarantees and compensations we have all agreed upon.

Gertjan will focus on how what Hamadi says in terms of content relates to the pension commitment letter of De Unie. Has our commitment to adequate old age provision now been realised with this (draft) transition plan?

There is plenty of room to ask questions during the webinar via the chat function. We have moderators who will keep track of the chat and, where relevant, will answer questions during the webinar. Questions can be sent to email gertjan.tommel@unie.nl are sent. These questions will be answered before the vote closes.

Voting until November 1, 2024

This webinar will also be made available afterwards to watch back. Before the end of the week, members will receive a summary (in PDF) of the agreements we have made. In addition, they will also receive an invitation to cast their vote on the transition plan. Other active members (pensioners) and active members will receive a separate invitation to vote.

In addition, you can find out more about the current and new systems and the transition between them in a unique series of text and video recordings about the Dutch pension system via Vcp Pension app.
