De Unie, in your interest

Your collective labor agreement and industry

You are also participating in our #codeorange action, right?

December 19 2022

As announced, we would like to ask you to send a collective signal to ING on Tuesday 20 December 2022. We do this by making a public statement on Social Media.

It is a playful action aimed at ensuring that your employer sees that from now on we are really entering a different phase in the collective labor agreement process. This social media promotion coincides with the Cedar Christmas market on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, to which everyone is invited between 11:45 AM and 14:15 PM.

What do we ask of you?

On Tuesday, December 20, 2022 (especially between 09:00 and 14:00), post a photo on your social media account of something orange. That may be a traffic light, a traffic cone, a Christmas ball, a picture of yourself wearing a warm orange scarf, or even a tangerine. No further explanation is required. Important: provide your post with the hashtag: #CodeOranje

Like and share each other's posts so that a large wave of these messages arises and we are "trending" for a while.

What does the hashtag #CodeOranje stand for?

One by the trade unions press release in which we refer to this hashtag. In the press release we explain it as follows:

“#CodeOrange
The unions are also launching a new action hashtag together with the employees: #CodeOranje. Orange Code is a reference to the Orange Code, ING's manifesto for good employeeship: 'we are honest, we are attentive and we are responsible'. The #CodeOrange should lead to an ING manifesto for being a good employer. But also an alarm code that they issue to the ING board that refuses to take the collective problems of its employees seriously.”

Of course we would like the newspapers to take up this message. Being trending on twitter helps with that.

Why this action now?

Trade unions have deployed various means to get the consultations going smoothly, but on the basis of a good opening offer from ING.

  • We have consulted with ING;
  • We have presented a white paper and a petition;
  • We have sent a letter to the Supervisory Board. But unfortunately, the Supervisory Board did not respond;
  • On 9 December, we had a meeting with the independent chairman of the collective bargaining agreement. This discussion took place in response to a request from trade unions whether the chairman could advise the parties to find a way forward. We have since received feedback on his initial findings. Unfortunately, the conclusion is that there is currently no change in position between the two parties.

The trade unions will therefore have to keep putting pressure on ING to arrive at different insights. And that pressure will have to increase. That's why now: Code Orange.

Yours faithfully,

the negotiating delegation De Unie,

Inge de Vries
