Intertek Geleen: what next?

March 01 2023

On February 16, 2023, the consultations between the trade unions and Intertek have not yielded any negotiating results. The employer then submitted a final offer. Parties were given only 12 days to respond. The final offer would therefore expire on February 28.

February 28 2023

Due to the long absence of Gerard van der Lit De Unie only now have we actually seen the final offer. It is not known to me, Edith Werger (representative), why the employer does not accept the written final offer De Unie has delivered.

The final offer has now been superseded

There is no point in submitting the final offer after all. On the one hand because the term has expired and on the other hand because the other two unions have already rejected the final offer. The FNV has announced actions and has rejected the employer's request to talk to each other again on 8 or 14 March.

What is causing the most anxiety right now?

Intertek's final offer can be described as meager at this time. Given the inflation and the results of Intertek, the wage offer could have been substantially higher, but can the wage demand of colleagues still be called realistic? And is the chosen course of action really the best solution? It is true that the collective labor agreement negotiations have been going on for several months, but have they finished talking? What is the interest of Intertek in keeping its hand on the purse strings? Doesn't seem like a good way to fascinate and bind your employees. Without the employees, you as a company do not have much to offer your shareholders. And what is the point of starting an action as a union if many of your members are not behind it? Are you doing it for the members or for the association's interest? Both reasons are justifiable, but if there is an offer to talk further, could actions at least be postponed (for a while)?

What now?

Let me know what you think. Do you think parties should continue to negotiate and keep actions (temporarily) off the track? Do you think the final offer was sufficient or insufficient? Do you think action should be taken now? Do you think the majority of employees are for or against actions? Do you think that the majority of employees want the parties to continue negotiating now?

Ask your unorganized colleague his or her opinion, they can also send me an email. I will use the anonymised answers to confront the collective labor agreement parties with the intention of arriving at a new collective agreement, regardless of the route taken.
