ING: White paper presented

October 04, 2022

On Monday 3 October, the negotiating delegations of De Unie and CNV presented an impressive book to ING. More than 1300 ING employees responded to our call and answered the question: ING sees no reason to improve the salary offer of a collective, structural 2% salary increase. What does this do to you?

More than 1300 employees means that approximately 10% of the staff has responded. The white paper thus provides a representative picture of the opinion of ING employees. Maarten van Beek received the book on behalf of the ING management. In the conversation with the offer is by De Unie emphasizes the broad outline of the responses we have received. We also explained why we held this promotion.

What does the wage offer of 2% do to ING employees?

We see the following main points:

  • Employees feel that they are not valued.
  • ING radiates that only shareholders are important.
  • The ING management does not seem to know or want to know what is going on in the workplace.
  • The loss of purchasing power is also being felt among middle income earners.
  • Employees feel less loyal to and involved with ING.
  • The workload at ING is very high and increasing. That includes a good reward.

Why have De Unie and CNV professionals carried out this action?

The collective labor agreement negotiations threaten to stall. High inflation forces unions to demand substantial structural salary increases. An initial offer of a 2% structural salary increase does not give us the confidence that we will work it out with ING. We asked ING to come up with a better proposal. And we have asked members and their colleagues to lend their support to it. We have received that support. Many members and many employees who are not yet members have supported the position of the trade unions with their contributions.

How further?

When offering the white paper, have De Unie and CNV made it clear that it is now up to ING to act. The next collective labor agreement meeting is scheduled for 12 October. It has been agreed with ING that they will indicate well before 12 October how they will increase their salary offer. Hopefully the White Paper will convince ING that this increase is really necessary for successful collective bargaining. Should ING's move not come, then De Unie and CNV again appeal to members. Then we need to make the message even clearer.
