learning account
A joint working group (the Learning Working Group) is investigating the effectiveness of the learning account. The learning account is intended for your training aimed at a career move outside ING, whether or not as a result of a reorganization. Research among users shows that the learning account (the most important tool for your plan C) is not widely used. The reasons for this vary. It has been determined that significant improvements are needed to make the learning account an attractive platform for ING employees. Furthermore, alternatives should be explored.
Are you interested in this topic? The working group is looking to expand. If you would like to contribute to a more flexible and broader allocation of financial resources for Plan C and to making the training budget more transparent, please contact our advocate, Inge de Vries.
Hybrid work
Hybrid working is a topic that members of De Unie regularly by email and phone. At the request of (among others) De Unie ING has communicated that any changes to the hybrid mode will not be implemented by July 1, 2025. It has also been clearly communicated that, should policy changes occur, employees will be given sufficient time to adjust their personal arrangements. ING is obligated to do so. There are several court rulings on this topic.
Many employees go to the office two or more days a week, and many are happy to collaborate face-to-face with their team. However, at ING, there are also many tasks that don't lend themselves to office work, or where the team operates in different countries. Working in the office then adds less value to the work itself, although there may, of course, be other reasons why the organization values employees coming to the office.
Advice from De Unie:
The topic of hybrid working raises many questions. Several members have submitted recent case law or are contacting us to discuss their concerns. Hybrid working is currently being discussed between ING and the employee participation body. Keep an eye on member messages. De Unie Stay tuned! If more information becomes available, I'll include it in a member message. If you're asked to work at the office, contrary to previous agreements, and you disagree with this, or if this causes problems, please contact De Unie up. The lawyers of De Unie We would be happy to discuss your options with you.
32-hour workweek
During the collective bargaining agreement negotiations, it was agreed that the parties would jointly explore the possibilities of a 32-hour workweek. An external consultant gave a presentation on this topic. This presentation offered few relevant points for the situation at ING. The consultant has extensive experience with adjusting work schedules and implementing LEAN in organizations, thereby shortening the workweek. A follow-up meeting will be scheduled, during which the consultant will present several representative case studies.
The advocacy group has requested that specific attention be paid to the implementation of the 36-hour workweek at ING. Because many employees work 4 x 9 hours, they already have a four-day workweek. It's questionable whether reducing the 36-hour workweek to 32 (4 x 8 hours) will result in significant additional free time and a better work-life balance for them.
