ING: Online strike meeting 4 April about new collective bargaining offer

April 03, 2023

Online strike meeting April 4

ING issued a final offer on Monday morning. This final offer has been discussed by the executive meeting of De Unie. The members of De Unie have previously stated that we can only return to the negotiating table if the management of ING makes a structural salary increase of 6%. ING's final offer does not come close to that. As far as executives are concerned, this final offer is no reason to resume negotiations and the strike will therefore continue in the form of an online strike.

The other trade unions have made a different decision and are suspending the strikes.

Point of view De Unie

De Unie believes that ING's final offer is insufficient. We keep our backs straight and continue the actions. All ING employees with an average income or higher still have a loss of purchasing power of 10% or more in this final offer. We calculate the loss of purchasing power from the last salary increase paid by ING. After two years of zero, this is really insufficient.

Online strike meeting

Because the other unions have suspended the actions, we opt for a two-hour strike. In this online strike meeting we discuss ING's final offer, what the consequences are for you and for the further course of the collective labor agreement process.

The meeting will be online on Tuesday, April 4 from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. You will find the link to the meeting tomorrow from 09:30 on codeorange.nu.

We call on all ING employees to attend an online strike meeting De Unie to come for the honest story.

Juggling with numbers

The management of ING has submitted a final offer at a very late moment and continues to juggle with figures. The proposal has again been radically amended, but hardly improved for most employees.

The four different percentage salary increases (7, 6, 5 or 4% depending on the amount of your salary) have been replaced by two different nominal increases. The differences between employees become even greater. ING will allow this salary increase to take effect on 1 July. As compensation for the late starting date, a one-off increase of € 2.000 has been added. So that is not a bonus, but simply the payment of the missed wage increase from January to June.

In addition, ING also implemented deteriorations in the offer. For example, the CMU is no longer included and ING is sticking to the deterioration of wage growth.

Example calculation

The management sees the high inflation as an opportunity to sharply worsen the salaries of ING employees and has no regard for your efforts.

If you have a gross monthly salary of € 3.250, your loss of purchasing power is 10%. If your gross monthly salary is higher, your loss of purchasing power will increase further. For someone with a salary of € 6.000, the loss of purchasing power is even 16%. For De Unie it is incomprehensible that the management of ING dares to make this offer. ING ignores the many signals of dissatisfaction that have been expressed for more than six months.

For the sake of clarity, we calculate the effects for the year 2023. We cannot yet estimate your loss of purchasing power for the year 2024, but ING's offer inextricably links the meager increase in 2023 to an increase of 3% for 2024, with a buttery soft break-open clause if inflation remains high.

ING still considers its employees too expensive

The management of ING has indicated for years that they think that ING employees are too expensive. They have no eye for the high workload and your commitment to the company. With this final offer, they apparently want to achieve their goal, the salary structure below the Dutch market average, in one go. De Unie believes that this offer does not show appreciation for your hard work.

We expect a high turnout on Tuesday 4 April.
