HEMA: De Unie does not participate in HEMA transitional arrangement

February 23 2023

HEMA wants to switch to the Collective Labor Agreement Retail Non Food (RNF). But there is a significant difference between the collective labor agreements at HEMA and the RNF collective labor agreement. HEMA wants to solve that with a transitional and proprietary arrangements, but trade unions will not become part of that solution.

If you are using  our latest message it will come as no surprise that we have informed HEMA that we will not be a party to any collective transitional arrangement. A transitional arrangement that – as said before – is intended to 'adequately' regulate the transition from the HEMA collective labor agreements to the RNF collective labor agreement.

Explanation

The main reason for our decision is that we have concluded that a collective transitional arrangement (which will be part of an offer to the employee to switch to a new employment conditions package as of 1 July 2023) will very probably not mean an improvement for many employees.

If you do not sign for the new employment conditions package, you will retain your current employment conditions package (HEMA collective labor agreement + the employment conditions contained in the RNF collective labor agreement + the agreements in the RNF collective labor agreement regarding (future) wage increases).

Agreeing a collective transition arrangement with HEMA could lead to employees being inclined to sign up for the new employment conditions package, because it has been agreed with trade unions; 'it will be fine'. While that totally and probably won't be or need to be the case. De Unie does not want to encourage and prevent this idea and therefore refrains from agreeing on a collective transitional arrangement.

De Unie is ready for advice

Every member of De Unie can get advice or a check from us later and can discuss with us whether it is wise to sign for the new employment conditions package. Or is it better not to sign so that you at least keep what you have now. Your own opinion is of course also very important in this. The consideration could be different for each individual.
