Fake news from Philips about wage increases

April 18, 2023

Last Saturday, Philips announced in the Financieel Dagblad that the unions must hurry with a new collective labor agreement at Philips. “Because Philips offers 9% for the lower scales and 7% for the higher scales.”

Join now De Unie. You can do that from €0!

The reality

In reality, Philips' previous final offer was 4% per August 2023 and 3% per August 2024. This final offer was rejected by a large majority of our members. Subsequently, Philips put a new offer on the table. For 80% of the employees, the improvement in this “new” offer only amounted to an increase in the one-off payment from gross 900 euros to 1000 euros. How seriously should Philips employees feel?
The last collective wage increase at Philips was 2,1% on July 1, 2022, while inflation at that time averaged 10,3%. Until August 2023, average inflation will be around 9%. Philips is therefore enormously behind (10,3 + 9 -2,1 – 7 = 10,2 %) to somewhat compensate for inflation for its employees.
If Philips really wants to achieve a better collective labor agreement for its employees as soon as possible, why does it refuse to implement a wage increase before August 2023? All this should be seen in the light that over a period of two years 20% of Philips employees in the Netherlands will lose their jobs. Those who stay have to work harder and harder to, among other things, train replacement colleagues in India and China.

Wage claim from De Unie

Collaborates with other trade unions De Unie today a final offer to Philips for a one-year collective labor agreement. In it demands De Unie that salaries will be increased by 1% as of August 2023, 7, including a floor of € 290 gross per month. A one-off payment of € 1 gross is requested for the period from 31 January to 2023 July 2030.
